Tech sucks a fat dick - 5th year here. I switched to an easier major, MGT, from EE because I realized that I was working for the degree and not because I actually WANTED to bust my ass doing boring work for the rest of my life (duh)… but I realized that even with all the free time being a MGT major there’s nothing to do outside of work. Parties are boring, there are too many dudes… The people here are socially inept, arrogant and depressing. I have a few friends at tech - the few friends that I made here are all boring. All my good friends who are socially normal don’t go here. I’ve hated all my years here - this was the worst decision of my life.

On the bright side I only have one mores semester to go!! YES!!

Omg I am currently going through that same thought process lol…Forget everything everyone else has said, you’re probably one of those types of people who don’t thrive in a school environment. I personally think college is a scam. This so called education were getting does not work for everyone but were unfortunately forced to conform to these social norms… We’re taught that failer is bad, to go to a good school…get a degree…get a good paying job. Then hope to retire at like 75… *** kind of life is that?? I have major depressive disorder and ADD… So what…? …A degree is virtually useless anyway bc everyone has one. How many people are currently unemployed & can’t find a J O B…? Exactly. You can learn waaaay more outside of school than in school and being confined to a classroom and a text book… I’m a very creative individual so this so called education system of ours sucks for me and doesn’t allow me to reach my infinite greatness. Im sure you want your life to have purpose and meaning… I know this post may be all over the damn place but just know that YOU can do whatever the hell you want to do. Do not conform to social norms, do not let outsiders tell u you can’t do something just bc they can’t do it… Believe in yourself and yourself only …I just take random classes like accounting, marketing, etc bc it’s good to know the basics of running a business but nothin compares to actually goin out and doing things yourself. I’m only 22 and my business partners and I are in the process of opening up a recording studio. We have a clothing line, after school bball camp for kids, sell candles, a bunch of random business ventures to raise enough capital to buy the space we want for our recording studio… End goal is to invest in Real Estate, that other stuff is just practice lol… You network and intern and shodow successful people to gain knowledge. I believe that this education system holds most people back from reaching our full potential… Anywho, it’s your life, your destiny and only you can decide what’s best for you… If you have any questions you can def email me! & That’s my rant for the morning lol (:

college is a human trash factory. its a real expensive trick to RIP off your job and give it to someone else and LEAVE you with a HUGE bill for all of those GARBAGE can courses you took.you know BABE I have been BASHING academia for SO LONG that sometimes I feel BAD for some of these c@cksuckers that actually think I am PART of there education and I am here to help them.

I prefer PRO-PROGRAM. why should I BECOME a SKEL mr. you snooze you loose or the GRADUATE guy in the MOVIE he WAS ASKEL or animal house KEEP drinking until you GET DRAFTED FOR A WAR I REALLY HATE THESE PEOPLE and there HUMAN trash FACTORY

Haha does it get really that bad here? I mean, I’ve def noticed the lack of girls and the parties are pretty bad but I’ve met a lotta girls at emory and I go to parties there so it isn’t so so bad. And I live in Perry and this year it’s 3 floors girls and the top floor is guys its kinda fun. The work is already getting kinda hard tho

Oh and yea there are too many extremely socially awkward/arrogant people here

I hate general education so much.
It’s as though college maliciously enjoys wasting my time with architecture etc.
I"M A PHYSICS MAJOR I want to learn hard physics skills.
I don’t want to spend 9 months learning things unrelated to my major,
I want to spend 9 months becoming a better physicist.
Wasn’t high school ENOUGH for becoming all-rounded???
WASN’T IT ENOUGH???
All those years down the drain, and you say just one more year honey???

Grrr… if you all quit partying and came to your senses you would probably group together and say NO TO GEs!

Alright so I read all the posts from 2009 which I felt were the most pertinent to Darko’s problem.

I really enjoyed all the advice everyone gave telling Darko to try new things or weigh out his options. But I especially respected the realist’s comments that told Darko to change his attitude and that other kids work full time to pay for school, and that he has an opportunity that few have in the world.

My conclusion: College is truly an opportunity that a lot of kids don’t have in the world. You grew up in Suburbia so all you know is kids going to college after high school. If you don’t like college, that’s fine, because you can do whatever you want after you finish 4-years of it. And think about how great you will feel knowing you beat what you hated.

And another thing. Young people (including myself) feel way too entitled and especially spoiled. My parents did not have trouble paying for my college tuition and we have had money my whole life. I was about to drop out of college but finally met a roommate who was Hispanic and he was the first to go to college in his family. And he had no money. I realized I was throwing away something that was given to me on a silver platter. Our parents have been paying for everything our whole lives and we don’t even know what it feels like to work through blood sweat and tears.

Bottom Line: Don’t be a spoiled kid. America has *ed us all up by telling us “You can be/do whatever you want”. It’s a lie. And it’s made this generation a little delusional thinking we are entitled to *. So suck it up, bite your tongue, you won’t regret finishing college.

Lastly for Darko: It’s been four years since you posted this. I hope you stayed in college and you should be graduating by now. In life, you can change anything you want on the outside (changing schools, fashion, friends, music tastes) but your issue will always be internal. No matter what you do you gotta feel good a bout yourself inside. I hope you talked to a counselor.

I agree with those who said you need a new major. Did you cram your schedule with boring, general Ed requirements last year? Please see an academic advisor to help you plan your schedule to classes that interest you more. If that doesn’t work, maybe you need to look into a transfer - maybe the college is the problem. I don’t think McDonalds is the answer!
