I HATE community college!!

I HATE college, I see college as so pointless and dumb. The classes are pathetic, I just go to meet a criteria, work hard to get an A in classes and graduate. School is like prison, I jUSt got out of high school, and I’m doing this aGAin!? I hate how I can work hard to complete assignments on time and I can still get a B- in classes. I just want to be finished with it and get a job to support myself, but the irony is that I can’t expect to live the life I want unless I go to school. Every time I enter class I feel its just an everyday hustle, another day, another struggle. There is very little that I enjoy about going to classes other than leaving. Does anyone else feel this way?

What else would you be doing? Earning minimum wage or working as a barista at Starbucks while living in your parents’ basement?

And I agree, that’s the sadistic irony of life. In order to get a desired outcome it is likely that you will be miserable doing it. I have no other options but college, but I hate every minute of it.

We’ve all felt that way about school or a job. Persevere!!!

Getting A’s in college requires more than showing up with a bad attitude and turning in assignments on time.

I’m not sure what you are studying, but perhaps you should work with academic advising to find a path that you would enjoy more.

If you simply hate school, quit. Work for a bit and you might develop a different attitude.

If you hate school because you’re bored, challenge yourself with harder classes. I guarantee that your community college DOES have classes you will find hard and requiring a lot of focus and discipline.

This will serve you well once you transfer to a 4 year university… a place where many a “I-don’t-study-at-all-and-get-B’s” students are in for a rude awakening.

This way of thinking has happened as a result of going to classes putting my best foot forward with a positive attitude and getting a horrible grade despite the amount of work I have been putting in. The class that I am referring to is Enlgish 101, our first essay we write I put my best foot forward and got a 75% one of the highest grades on that assignment. Its ironic because if its an introductory English course, how the hell can she expect us to produce an essay to her level of perfection on our first try? This is just one of the many reasons why I hate college.

“how the hell can she expect us to produce an essay to her level of perfection on our first try?”

She doesn’t. She expects you to LEARN HOW TO produce a good essay. There’s a difference.

I LOVED my community college!! You should tried what I did. After gone to a junior college with the same feeling you have now, I hated school. Two years in military, four years in minimum wages working sometimes two jobs (that’s 16 hours day), then another couple years as a dead end middle-wage job which was basically laborer as a human mule (mailman, haha). So ten years later, when I got a chance to go back to a CC, it was almost like a life time dream to me. Maybe you should try it too.

College is NOT for everyone. If you hate community college, and think of it as extended high school, don’t do it. Explore the building trades. They have great apprenticeship programs that provide on the job training with classroom training and then they pay you while your are learning/working. Communities NEED well trained electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, carpenters, tile setters, masons, painters, etc… There are also hospital based nursing programs and xray tech. training if that is of interest. There are many paths to a successful adult career and not all require taking on debt and spending your time doing something you hate.

Like bamamom look at manufacturing careers as well. Machinist, programmers, tool and die. Most companies will do an apprenticeship-- earn while you learn. Start at your community college and see if they have a program. Also check with local manufacturing associations.

If you are confused as to why you got a grade, speak to the professor. Most colleges also have writing centers to help you get your papers to standard.

But realize college is not high school. You are graded on your results, not how hard you worked.

If you don’t like college, there are ways to shorten it. You could be an electrician, plumber, or even a chef. All of these make a decent living.
