The major that I am studying right now is dietary management. I’m pretty sure I made a mistake in choosing that major. My parents want me to major in Dietary Management but that isn’t my passion. A dietary manager job is a fast paced, stressful job with long hours which I don’t prefer. It is too difficult for me. My passion is to become a makeup artist but my parents won’t let me become one until I get my dietary management certificate. I only have one more class to compete until I become a dietary manager but I decided that this is not what I want to do. I would rather become a makeup artist than a dietary manager. The work load in dietary management is stressful and I’m not doing well academically. I am failing almost every test in college even when I study. I would be a lot happier if I were to become a makeup artist but my parents don’t approve. What should I do about this?
Sounds like if you can at least pass your classes and finish that one more dietary manager class your parents will let you do what you want after that. If they are paying and you really want their support (which it sounds like you do) then you might have give them their way before you can pursue what you want.
Since you said that you only have one more class to endure to finish you major in dietary manager, I suggest you might as well complete it. And once you are done with dietary management course, talk to your parents calmly and try to make them understand that your passion lies in being a makeup artist. If you are truly passionate about being a makeup artist I am sure your parents will see that and will help you in fulfilling your dreams. Plus, the fact that you completed the major that your parents wanted you to do will act in your favour. All the best!
Many students make this mistake…Just because you major in something and get a degree in it, doesn’t mean you have to do that as a career. By dropping out before you finish…all you are doing is cheating yourself.
What year of school are you in?
I would recommend finishing your degree…no matter what you do, many jobs require a college degree.
Then figure out what you need to do be a makeup artist. Maybe while you are in school you see what is happening in the theater department…are there classes in makeup? Can you volunteer to help out with makeup for shows?
Then in the future maybe you can combine your nutrition and makeup knowledge as a lifestyle guru.
Believe it or not your parents are looking out for your long term benefit…they just want you to finish A degree
