I hate people like this

So reading all of the cheating threads, I decided to add an anecdote because it still makes me so mad to this very day

So last year, we used to have vocab quizzes in Eng class involving roots. And I had it 5th period and and there was a class 2nd period. As you can guess people asked other people what was on the test. But it wasn't direct questions, it was more of a "If I study this part, will I be fine" and "How hard/easy was the test?" or "Is this section on the test?"
So I would be one of those people and I asked my friend "How hard was the test?" as well as "I'm studying these vocab words. Will I be fine?"
But this guy overhears us and he tells the teacher that I've been asking for answers. Now maybe that was considered cheating, I'm not sure, but what gets me is that this was a guy who cheated on EVERY SINGLE TEST, no matter what subject. And he reports everyone for cheating on tests, even if it's not really considered it. On all of his tests he would take out his phone and search up the answers. But I didn't want to be a dick and report him.
Now I think about, I should have. Idk, I feel like I'm being too nice to him. Anyone know these type of people?

I don’t like hypocrites and I don’t like cheaters. The guy is wrong for constantly cheating as well as wrong for reporting people for doing something that he practices often, however, your actions and the actions of your classmates also happened to be an ethical gray area.

Think of it this way; if you have any type of issue with walking up to your teacher right before the quiz and saying “Joe from Period 2 told me that we only needed to review these words for today’s quiz… is he right?” - then something is wrong. I don’t know if that makes sense - but basically, if you wouldn’t openly admit what you were doing to your teacher, it probably shouldn’t be done.

My teacher last year for AP World explicitly told us that discussing the test with other classes, regardless of how general our discussions were, was to be considered academic dishonesty.

I’m not trying to condemn you and I’m in no way perfect either - I can be down right awful at times, its just, idk. Cheating and stealing are two things that make me feel really icky.

Hypocrites? They’re pretty common.

(But cheating is wrong even if the person reporting it has also cheated. It bothers me when people make the cheating threads and everyone says the OP shouldn’t report the cheater because they’d just be doing it for their own personal gain. It doesn’t matter.)

LOL he actually tells us which parts of the word to study from the day before… but no one ever trusts him
