I found on college borad’s website that my college would accept calculus test score. But when I brought my score to them, they told me that they never accept clep score. What is even worse is that they told me because they don’t accept CLEP score, they would not even let me skip pre-calculus and calculus with the score. It will be totally a waste of money and time if I do what they told me to do. I don’t know how unreasonable it seems to you guys. Do you guys think it is normal and reasonable?
The college itself always has the last word so lesson to be learned, you need to check with the college directly and not the College Board. Policies do change over time and many times, the CB website might not be updated in a timely manner.
Will the college let you take a Math placement test to see if you can get out of at least Pre-Calc? Many schools require a Math placement test prior to attending.
What college?
Most colleges have their own math placement testing and procedures for enrollment in calculus 1 or lower math courses.
Each college has their own CLEP policy, if they even accept CLEP at all. It was your job to check with the college first and not just rely on the College Board website. College Board does not set the policy of any college on CLEP, they merely administer the tests.
I would talk to your advisor and/or the math department about their policy and if they will let you take a math placement exam. Many schools will do this. Are you trying to take a higher level class or complete a requirement? They might allow you to take a higher class with a placement exam, but not fulfill a distribution requirement. It will vary by college.
Right. College Board provides the score; it’s up to each college to decide whether or not they choose to count those credits.
There should be a math placement test. Check on the undergraduate/math website.
