I have a D in math Right now, How will this effect my college admission?

Right Now I have a 63 in my IB SL Math class, aka a D. It’s around the end of the semester and all that’s left is the midterm which if I’m not incorrect is worth 10% of the overall grade. So it’s not impossible to get a C, but highly unlikely. Does this effect my chances of getting into my schools like App State, Wilmington, Chapel Hill, NC State, and Davidson? My other grades are 5 As and 2 Bs and I take these classes all year, this is just the mid-year report I’m worried about, I know I can bring it up to a B or a C for my final grade. My intended major is comp sci as well.

a 70% is a C in my school btw.

Are you a junior or senior? Don’t worry about it if you’re a junior.

Senior

Why are you getting a D- don’t understand the material, your computation is slow, your homework is perfect but you freeze up on tests?

I’ve never been that good in math, but I’ve never been that bad as a D either. We don’t get homework in this class just tests and quizzes. I think it’s me just mostly freezing up on tests.

If you have a 63 with only a final worth 10% of your grade, the highest grade you can get is 66.7.

What math class are you taking? Is this calculus of some sort?

I am concerned that you have pushed yourself into classes that are too difficult. Is it possible to back off to easier classes?

Math is an area where you need to understand the prerequisites very well before you go on to the next class. Everything that you learn in math depends upon things that you learned in the past. Getting a C or a D suggests that next year you could have trouble again.

At a minimum you probably need to get a tutor or at least some extra help starting ASAP, preferably starting this week.

there is some stuff she has yet to put in as fgrades which I hope would put me to a 64 or 65 and hopefully, I can get some extra credit assignments, that’s my plan for right now.

I think its too late to back out. Its an IB class which you take for two years and this is the second year.

Isn’t CS math heavy?

I think you really need to buckle down and seek extra help.

yes I know, I just had a really bad year with math.

I think you are not going to get into those colleges with a D since there were other students who had higher grades than you who didn’t get accepted. CS is a very competitive major.

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Could I possibly contact the schools and change majors? Comp sci was something I choose because I had no idea what to choose.

I just don’t want this one year of mess up to not get me into the colleges I want to get into.

This is also this one year, plus my grades wasn’t a big part of my application, it was the stuff I did outside school that I would hope that would get me in.

“Is there anything I can do to fix it?”

I think that you need to spend the rest of this school year focusing on improving your grades in math. This really has to be a major focus for you.

Grades are the most important thing when applying to universities.
