I have a high GPA but scored a 1730 on the SAT

This was just a reply to what one of the responses mentioned regarding a friend who got into Northeastern. I am pretty much in the same boat. I have a high gpa (a 4.1 unweighted on a 4.3 scale), I do pretty well in all my classes (all honors and aps), but I got a 1730 on the sats. I go to a pretty good high school in CT which is a magnet school. (I know someone mentioned that and I was wondering if a magnet school helps or hurts kids for college. Anyway, we seem to be pretty similar as students so just let me know what you find. I want to be a music teacher for younger kids, so I dont need the most prestigious of schools, I just wanted to sort of know where I stand.
Thanks!

I was the other way; I got a 2240 but I had a 3.6 UW.
For competitive schools, you definitely need to bring it up to at least 2000.

I recently checked my cousin’s SAT scores. Let’s just say they were below the national average. I feel so bad for complaining about what I got.

But try the ACT.

^ What did you get? I thought that you did quite well?

^2300 on final take. Yes, quite well, but I still complained. So, now I feel bad for being like “should I retake?” when he’s sub-1500.

^ Haha, I got the same mark and I was chuffed to bits!

^I was initially chuffed (teehee :)), as it were, but then I was like, “That 700 math. That makes me look really uneven. And no one has probably ever gotten into MIT with a 700 math. Wah! Should I retake? Lemme text my sister and see what she says.”

^ On the other side almost no one applies to MIT with 800 CR and 800 Writing!

Only on CC is a 1730 bad.

really? most of my friends got between 1800 and 2000

^^ True that

^ Private school?

^I’m public and all my sophomore friends got 1590+

^ Same here. Public school and my friends are all in the 2100-2400 range.

Maybe your school is really easy?

Are you not taking Honors classes?

^^Yeah and we all expect to get near 2000 or higher, but I tend to be friends with the smarter people. I probably have one of the lowest GPA’s in my group of friends, but I’m most prepared, weird.
^He said he was taking a rigorous load (twss), read his post.

Try the ACTs, you might do better on them. Especially if your weakest area is reading, because the ACT reading is a lot easier than the SAT reading IMO.

Retake the SAT

I did terrible on my SATs…like TERRIBLE. but my GPA is high enough & i’m pretty involved in my school and I was able to get offered scholarships at a few schools i applied to. and there’s also some good schools that are SAT optional. haha soo anyway don’t worry!

More colleges now know that SAT does not show success in college. I have a feeling that they won’t reject you for bad 1 standard test.

Just to be on the safe side, study a lot like you said and get a 2000.
