Am I screwed?

I've taken the SAT twice and I got 1730 and 1740, is that horrible? I have a really high GPA and get straight A's so do I still have a good chance of getting into good colleges?

depends on what colleges you mean.
If your talking Ivies…I suggest you take SATs again
I wouldn’t lose hope though! I took it three times. Maybe try once more?

i would take it a third time after practicing many many many official SAT tests.

Are you signed up to take the Dec test?

How late will your schools accept scores?

What schools are you considering?

I think it’s too late to sign up for the December SAT but I’m taking the December ACT on the 12th.
I’m not really applying to Ivies. I’m applying to University of California Davis and Berkeley which is practically an Ivy, then San Francisco State, University of Washington, University of Oregon, University of Southern California, Pepperdine, Syracuse, and Stony Brook University.
Do I have a chance of getting into some of these?

The scores are too low for USC and Cal, but they won’t kill you at any of the other places.

a school is either in that athletic conference or not. it’s not a matter of degree.

you said too low for Cal as in UC schools? California state? or any California schools?

^^^

I think the poster meant that your SAT is too low for UCB.
It’s also probably too low for USC.

What is your UC ?

What is your Cal State GPA?

What is your full GPA?

Can you pay full-freight? If not, then take those OOS publics off your list; they won’t meet need for OOS costs.

You can definitely get into UCSB, UCSC, UC Riverside, and UC Merced with those scores.

I got into University of Southern California with my scores, taught me to not listen to what other people say.

^ You probably got in because of affirmative action aka URM.

^ I suppose that means he/she is hispanic or black
-and if so, you’ll get in pretty much any state school easily

^Not true, and furthermore USC isn’t a state school. Congrats ariellax.

Can you take the June ACT?

congrats to you! scores aren’t everything, and people really need to learn that!

First of all, I am not within the URM category at all and secondly, Im not in state which doesnt matter because USC is private.

and thank you! :]

I really approve of this thread.
haha

sniffs This reeks of grade inflation or an easy course load…

A friend of mine got accepted to Harvard 6th of his class with a 2010 SAT. Go figure. First student from our school to get into Harvard and Columbia for a couple years now.

Where I live, a 1750 is a good score. Here in CC, getting a 1750 makes you feel like a dunce. Go figure…

^^^

Looking at scores alone won’t tell the whole story.

If the student has an unusual talent, is a URM (especially a male URM), or is majoring in something unique, the ivies are more lenient with scores.
