I have a problem

I have a problem.
I want to go to Duke, but I'm a Tarheel through and through. I love Carolina and without a doubt know I'll be happy there. However, I like Duke and am leaning towards attending the school though my sports team loyalty will still lie with that Carolina blue.
Is that odd?
At this point im 51/49 Duke/Carolina and I'm about to flip a coin to decide.

From what you’ve just posted you don’t really have a compelling reason to go to Duke other than perhaps its reputation. I caution against that.

One of my friends at Duke is a diehard Tarheel fan (his mom went to UNC so he grew up as an UNC fan). And, he plays for the Duke Baseball team too! Although I like to mess with him jokingly, it’s really not that big of deal (except during the Duke-UNC games). Regardless, he still likes Duke. So don’t choose a school just because of the sports team loyalty (unless that is the most important factor to you).

I understand how it looks like that SBR. I should have added:
I like Duke’s size a lot compared to Carolina’s. I think that it offers an opportunity for students to interact with their professors more personally. Each individual matters more.
Also I like the even greater diversity at Duke than UNC though both schools don’t have a problem with that.
Lastly I like the idea of being completely out of my element and not knowing anyone at a school as opposed to UNC where I know 5-6 people from my graduating class and 15-20 from other classes that graduated before me.
P.S. Yeah Duke’s reputation is also a factor but in my opinion the difference in prestige between UNC and Duke isn’t that disparate.

If you think those things are likely to greatly impact your college experience and cannot be found at UNC, then perhaps Duke is the right choice. But I’d caution that these things you mention are often superficial buzz-y aspects of college that are unlikely to greatly impact your overall college experience if you just look on the surface.

go to Blue Devil Day…then decide. You already know that class size is going to be very much better at Duke and so is the very diverse national and international footprint of the student body

but if you are emotionally happier despite these factoids at Chapel Hill, you can extract a great education there.

You don’t really have a problem …it is not even April 1 yet…until you can’t make up your mind till April 29…

all the other kids on the waitlist who wish they had your problem will applaud when clarity hits, you make a choice and someone at UNC or Duke is closer to a shot

One of my best friends at Duke was a diehard Tarheel fan who actively cheered against Duke lol. He loved Duke academically and socially and is headed to Harvard Law School next year.

Going to Duke will probably convert you into a Blue Devil though.:D
