the university of florida or the university of southern california?? i do a bunch of volunteer hours, am a varsity track/cross-country runner, am sports editor of my newspaper, have been a head delegate for model u.n. for 3 years and co-own a business where i am the manager. that's just some of what i do, but since my gpa's so low (i go to the best school in my state), i'm afraid that i won't get in.

also, should i apply early action or regular decision for these two schools?? any help would be appreciated! thanks!

I don't know whether you'll get in, but I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, you can't change the past, so you should just apply to these schools anyway and see. You will never know unless you apply, as all the humorless college people say. Apply early if you are committed to that school (absolutely sure it's your #1) and can do so financially.

Are you in-state for University of Florida? That would help your chances, obviously.

I think USC might be a slight reach for you, but definitely apply to both schools. Don't apply early decision unless you're sure of your #1 choice, but you can apply to several non-binding early action schools if you like.

well if you go to the best school in your state, i'm sure adcoms are aware of the academic rigor in your high school and will cut you some slack. but remember, your gpa won't kill you. focus on everything else.

no in the op's case, the 3.1 gpa will seriously kill her chance for admissions. 3.1 for USC?? come on. i am sure usc will acknowledge the fact that your school is competitive but there are many other top applicants who also go to very competitive schools and get above 4.0 gpa as well as great ecs and sat score.
