I have been accepted to UC Santa Barbara but why Pre-Poli Sci???

I applied there and didn’t even think I would get in, honestly. I have a 3.8 GPA but no community service whatsoever. Anyways, I am a political science major, and the letter says that I got admitted for “pre-poli sci.” What does that mean??? Is there something wrong??? I’m currently taking one political science class and completing that class should make it to where I get my AA in poli sci, so why was I admitted for pre-poli sci?

“**TRANSFER STUDENTS who have officially declared Political Science with the UCSB Office of Admissions are admitted as Pre-Political Science majors.” So every student that applies to UCSB as a poli sci gets in as a pre-poli sci until they take some courses there and pass them? Did I read that correctly? I have nothing to worry about?

Yes, you must complete the specified courses with a 2.6 GPA (for those taken at UCSB) in order to declare the political science major.

So does that mean I’ll be there for more than two years since I’m a transfer student? Or should I be able to graduate within two years if I take classes every quarter excluding summer?

According to the linked web page, you need 6-7 lower division courses (some of which you may have taken before transfer) and 10 upper division courses for the major. In six quarters (two academic years) after transfer, you will probably take around 24 courses. So it should all fit in if you schedule carefully and do not have large amounts of general education to complete as well.

Thanks mate. I was scared for a moment. Thought I got in with the wrong major.
