I have heard that International Business is the most useless Major?

I have heard that International Business is the most useless Major?... and I was planning on getting it, and maybe getting a law degree and then going for a management position in a company that does International trading? Was planning on getting a second major in computer science, so it would be easier for me to get hired by companies like IBM, Microsoft or any other somewhat related to that sphere companies?

It is a useless major.

thats lame… =/

You want to get a law degree? That changes things a bit. If you really want to be a lawyer (i.e. that’s your final goal) here’s what you need to do:

Major in whatever you like, and get a really high GPA and really high LSAT

Get into a T14 law school and attend the best school that selects you.

Work for a prestigious law firm

???

PROFIT!!!

well, when I was looking at current job searches and engines, many positions that I am interested in… Would require you a 10 year experience in International Business Sphere or a law degree… that kind of a reason I would want to go to a law school, however a career of a lawyer is also very tempting

If you wanna do good on the LSAT, become a philosophy major or math/engineering.

International business is a very vague term and major for that matter. However, you need to remember that to be traveling internationally, you need to be worth the expense to your business, and to do so, you need to have some good skills and probably have proven yourself in your own workplace first. To get a job that provides you with good skills and gives you experience that makes you worth sending overseas, you’ll be better off in just about any other business major.

It’s no less useful than a BSBA/general business/management degree. A degree is a validation. It shows that you can learn and maybe even apply lessons. It may be a vague term and major, but unless your career goals include a very specific job (engineer, chemist) there is no harm in getting a degree in a broad topic. If your future goals might include an MBA make sure you check all the prereq blocks along the way, and you likely will with that major. The world is full of psychology and philosophy degree holders who neither treat head cases nor philosophize. Why would you think you would be worse off than them or a liberal arts major?

Thank you, the reason I created this threat in a first place, was that for past 2-3 years, I was considering International Business as my major in a future, and couple days ago I just read someone’s comment about IB being useless. I am interested in double majoring, so I guess having International Business and maybe Political Science wouldn’t hurt me. Or International Business and Computer Science…

IB is great when you do a double major with it (depending on your career goals) and better with a foreign language minor or major. Of course this is just 1 opinion.

Useless!? What with globalization International Business could very well be one of the most lucrative degrees there are!
