I have a 3.3 GPA (Borderline 3.4). I’d really like to stay in Florida as I have Florida pre-paid and I’m very interested in studying criminology. I’ve always loved the U of Miami, but the tuition is very high to go there. Would Florida State be a good potential place to go? I’ve been involved in athletics all my years in High school and have my mandatory 120 service hours done already. Somebody help please.
A few comments.
–What year are you in?
–Did you take standardized tests? If so what are the results? It is hard to start a college search without some idea of where you will come out on these exams.
–What is your strength of schedule (did you take APs, honors, regular track?)
–Talk to your parents and find out any constraints they have (financial, geographic etc.).
–Start researching potential schools. You can start with the Supermatch function CC (under find a college). You should also get your hands on some college guide books (my favorite is Fiske, also good are Princeton Review, Insiders Guide) and start reading to see what sounds interesting and where your stats qualify you for. Guide books are likely available in your HS guidance dept. or the library.
–Consider what you want in a school – size, location, and other things such as do you want Greek Life? is big time sports important to you? anything else?
–Run net price calculator for schools you are interested in and that you qualify for.
–Visit some schools and see what type of school appeals to you.
–FYI, there is no mandatory 120 service hours for college applications. It may be a HS requirement, but it isn’t for colleges. But it can be put as an EC activity.
time for a talk with your GC
1.I’m a Junior heading to senior year
2. I got a 1250 on the new SAT out of 1600 and I haven’t received my ACT scores yet.
3. I took all regular classes.
4. My parents would like for me to stay in Florida.
@mikemac Lol, that might be what I need to do.
