I'm going into the summer of my senior year and I just feel as if I have way too many college choices. To sum it all up I've played sports my whole life, but I don't think college athletics are what I want to pursue. I have a 3.7 GPA, all honors courses no AP's but I will be taking AP ECON and AP Calc AB next year as a senior, and I have an 1800 SAT score. I want to major in business; I am leaning towards finance or accounting. I want a school within a few hours of Philadelphia (I am from suburban Philadelphia) with a good business program that I will fit in academically. Thank you for any advice.

Much of where you should apply depends on how much your parents will pay each year. If you don’t know ask them.

If they’ll pay $60k per year for you to go wherever you want, then you’ll have some good choices.

however, if you have a limited budget, then you’ll need to identify schools that will be affordable.

What is your Math + CR score?

Muhlenberg

Math 630
Reading 610
And no my parents aren’t putting up 60 a year I would have to take out some serious loans for that and my biggest thing right now is I’m not really sure if the loans are worth it if I can get the same education for half the price?

Your instincts are correct: There isn’t much point in paying twice the price for equivalent educational products. It really is OK to bargain hunt. To better understand how the financial aid process works, spend some time in the Financial Aid Forum.

The Penn State branch campuses and other state affiliated universities in PA can be pretty affordable - especially if you can commute. The main campus of PSU is significantly more expensive for many students.

Consider York College of PA. With your stats, you’ll likely get some merit aid putting them at a similar cost to the state schools. Otherwise, West Chester, Millersville, or Elizabethtown all come to mind to check out.

I agree you don’t want massive debt. If you apply to a few choices, you can compare finances once you have packages in.

Muhlenberg, St. Joes, Drexel (you may qualify for merit aid at these schools) and as reaches (with your SAT score) Lehigh, Villanova. As more reasonably priced options look at UDelaware, Rutgers, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY New Paltz, and your in state schools.

Thank you everyone and my parents are going to give me twenty a year the rest I will need to take out loans

York has a great business program and is currently building a new business building on campus that looks really great in all the mail they send me.

Twenty grand would pretty much cover your room board and tuition. Maybe a little bit left over for you but if you got a scholarship I don’t think you’d have any loans.

Indiana U has a good business program

Muhlenberg college

What about Temple University?

Penn State easily best option.

PSU’s cost of attendance is 30k a year. Family contribution is 20k which means the OP has to come up with the 10k. Are you eligible for the Pell grant and state grant ?

Temple is pretty cheap if you can commute.

Penn state is expensive. There are private schools cheaper then Penn state’s in state tuition.
