Little description about me; I am currently enrolled in AP Physics 2 and I feel like I would like to challenge more by taking AP Physics C , which is a harder course. I don't have any prior knowledge about Physics and it is my first time taking it as a junior.

I would like to go STEM universities(MIT/GT/Caltech) in the future; I want to go MIT SO BAD!!!

Today I talked as to what I should take, my AP Physics 2 teacher storngly recommended me to stay AP Physics 2 and It will be unwise decision if I change class to AP Physics C and told me to take AP Physics C Mech after AP Physics 2 as a senior. I will have to let him know tomorrow what I have decided.

So my question is, do top colleges prefer to see AP Physics C? or Should I just follow my teacher's advice? Will this look bad If I take both AP Physics C and AP Physics2?
The reason why I am trying to take challenging class is because I took very a easy science class as a sophomore and am regretting right now.

Thank you your insights inadvance.

If you haven’t taken physics yet, it’s perfectly reasonable to take Physics 2 first. However, if you’ve already taken or will be concurrently taking calculus, you should do Physics C.

I have not taken Physics before and I am taking AP Calculus AB right now. I know it will be tough for me to handle the course, but Imma give my best effort. What should I do?

I’d say take Physics C then if you already have calculus, then Physics 2 is a waste of time since its algebra based.

So, Do you mean AP Physics C and AP Physics 2 basically cover same things, but AP Physics C require more advanced math, right? I think I just should go with AP Physics C.

yes, essentially. Physics 1 and 2 cover approximately the same material, give or take a few topics, as physics C, but using algebra instead of calculus.

Do you think taking Physics C will be a wise choice since I want to go very selective school? Ok, so I am taking AP Calculus… what would I take AP Physics 2 using algebra when there is AP Physics with calculus.

Can you guys recommend me the best prep book for AP Physics C that I can study along the class?

Princeton Review is good. I used it to self-study the Physics C Mechanics this past school year. You can also try Barron’s, but it is sometimes confusing and complicated.I would recommend trying the free response questions from past exams on the College Board website to help you prepare.
