I have to say, I feel royally screwed.

There are so many really awesome restaurants in New Paltz, we have been to quite a few but just scratching the surface. The town is so much fun...I love the artsy, hippie vibe. Brings me back to my college days in Greenwich Village.

Haldir:
Thanks for the chancing and the compliment!

LilyMoon:
Artsy and hippie is good! Man, I would love to go to Greenwich Village, so I'm pleased to hear that they are similar to one another. :**P More than that, I know about four people who are applying (for better or for worse). Is there a supplement to the application? If so, I can't find it.

My computer died twice while chancing you. I don't know if that means anything haha. I had this long and elaborate response all ready too. So, here's the response, minus the length and elaboration:

Amherst - mid-high reach
Bard (College, not Simon's Rock, right?) - high match
Beloit - mid-high match
DePauw - match
Elmira - in
Hobart - in
Penn State University Park- match
Skidmore - high match
SUNY Fredonia - in
SUNY New Paltz - in
SUNY Potsdam - in without submitting an application, pretty much
SUNY Purchase - an easier version of SUNY Potsdam
SUNY Stony Brook - match
Vassar - reach
Virginia Tech - mid-high match
Virginia Commonwealth U - low match

Oh, and thanks for chancing me.

You're welcome, and I should say the same to you. Are Potsdam/Purchase really that easy...?

Heh according to Princeton Review, yes. 450 on SATs is the lower range and 620 is the upper. And the GPA for them is 3.0-3.2. You'd get in so easily.

It's so funny how the adcom who came to my school to advertise was like "we're so picky, you might not get in, blah blah!" No wonder she seemed miffed when I told her that I have previous college credit.

the only true reach for you is amherst, i think you can get in everywhere else w/ no prob

chance back
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/595982-chance-me-how-much-do-sat-s-really-matter-when-everything-else-good.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/595982-chance-me-how-much-do-sat-s-really-matter-when-everything-else-good.html</a></p>

Vassar claims to be "holistic," so you never know. ;)

I don't see what's wrong with your stats. Community College? You can get into the majority of schools on your list...

Also, you would certainly recieve nice scholarships from fredonia, potsdam, and purchase.

Well, the reason that I am so concerned is primarily because the people on CC are so hypercompetitive -- even if it's not the norm, I still feel as though my application pales in comparison to most, which is why I have been making help threads as fast as I create CO2. I dunno, I really liked Vassar, Skidmore and Virginia Tech, but I am concerned as to whether I have a shot. Some people say yes, and others no, and I still need to take my SAT II's. Eh.

But. Good scholarships at Fredonia, Potsdam, and Purchase is definitely good to hear. How much off of tuition, do you think?

I, too, have just finished applying to New Paltz and on that thought, there is no supplement to the common application :)
The essay topic that you mentioned sounds pretty interesting (to me at least)!

Amherst - high reach
Bard - low reach
DePauw - low match
Penn State University Park - match
SUNY New Paltz - low match
SUNY Stony Brook - match
Vassar - reach
Virginia Tech - in
Virginia Commonwealth U - in

I'm not so sure about the other college...hope that helps and good luck!!

i think you should DEFINITELY mention your depression and your mother's suicide attempts. its not a crutch, its a valid explanation of why your grades suffered. and it even states so on most college websites- if no explanation is provided for a poor trend in grades, adcom will have to assume (that you just didn't study or work hard). furthermore, providing a valid explanation, and stating that despite all your domestic struggles you remain optimistic, hopeful, and determined to escape the depression that has characterized your youth might even impress the adcom at your resilience, courage, and determination. play it in your favor.

It's a bit too late for that just about anywhere -- I sent out my apps by October 20, excluding Lawrence. There really didn't seem to be any spot where I could mention it, but maybe I just wasn't thinking hard enough. Oh well, if I interview, maybe it can be brought up? I don't want to keep thinking about those parts of my life, which is the main reason. Ehhh, that sounds stupid.

Oh, and Emp! I think we have approximately eight of the same schools on our list. I bet we'll see each other one day. ;)

In at Potsdam -- one down, sixteen to go. Woot!

Congratulations!!!!

Thanks a bunch, Northeastmom!

I am a DePauw student and can attest that while Greencastle itself is very conservative, DePauw is quite liberal. You'd be surprised.

Amherst - high reach
Bard - high match
Beloit - match
DePauw - match
Elmira - in
Hobart - in
Penn State University Park - in
Skidmore - low reach
SUNY Fredonia - in
SUNY New Paltz - high match
SUNY Potsdam - in
SUNY Purchase - high match
SUNY Stony Brook - match
Vassar - low reach
Virginia Tech - in
Virginia Commonwealth U - in for 100%

Can u chance me back? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/588180-chance-me-pepperdine-university.html?highlight=Pepperdine%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/588180-chance-me-pepperdine-university.html?highlight=Pepperdine</a></p>

BakTalk - That's what my friend told me, too. I asked him about it yesterday, and he said that I would probably enjoy it if I could get over the drinking (I can), especially since the College Democrats and College Republicans are very vocal with one another. ;**)

N e t a n e l - Skidmore and Vassar on the same level, really? Coolios, I've already interviewed at Skidmore and they seemed to like me despite my lower GPA. Thanks.
