i heard

i heard that cornell has the highest % of suicide among students. I couldnt believe it since cornell is one of my dream schools. Is that true?

NO. false completely. whoever told you is a liar.

a friend from school... i was shocked the whole day... now im relieved lol

It's rate is half the national average. MIT has the highest suicide rate.

I'm not sure if the rate is half the national avg., but I do believe it is slightly less than the national avg.

its a myth ... everytime i say i go there ... people assume i'm gonna jump off gorges ... i just laugh.

national average is around 5 per 100,000 students

Cornell is like 4.5 per 100,000 students

MIT is over 20 per 100,000

KryptoniteMan..are you out to kill superman? :D

they just realize they arent the smartest anymore ....thats sad ........im glad is not cornell though

Cornellfan or Pennfan? :) but ya that's just a really bad myth...

he said 'one of my dream schools', figgy :P

It's a myth that got propogated in the 80's by a newsmagazine special on college suicides, which featured Cornell. Of course, the recent Time Magazine article on college suicides and prevention programs also highlighted a Cornellian. It would be a lie to say that Cornell doesn't have suicide, but it hasn't happened in quite a few years, and the counseling programs at Gannett (CAPS) are really reputable.
