"I intend to participate in a similar activity in college" (?)

Does this question on the activities section matter? What if it’s something you liked to do, but there isn’t exactly a similar activity in college that you can think of (like summer governor’s school or an honor society)? I know it’s not the case for all activities; some things like foreign exchange or volunteering seem to have equivalents, since you could study abroad or continue to do service work.

What if it’s an activity that you’re dedicated to, like marching band, but the schools you’re applying to don’t actually have bands? To check ‘yes’ seems like you’re expecting to participate in band in college, so would that look weird for schools that don’t have bands, since it looks like you didn’t look enough into what activities they offer?
I feel like that question is a trick to see if you’re truly dedicated to the activity.

It’s more to see if you will be involved on a college’s campus. You certainly don’t have to check yes for every activity, but you should do it for some.

Thank you @yonceonhismouth , I sort of figured it was something like that. I’ll check the activities that make sense.

It’s the Common App, so they would just assume that some of your other schools have bands.
