Hi,
Is there any harm in responding “I intend to participate in a similar activity in college” to ALL the activities that you have or saying you “don’t intend on doing so”? I fear that colleges will think that I’m not passionate about something if I don’t continue it in college, when in reality I just don’t think I’d have enough time for all 8 of my current high school activities.
The way my college counselor explained it as, “if it was offered in college, would you do it?”
You’re ok. Presumably, you do most of these now based on genuine interest (or you realize you need(ed) some particular sorts of experiences.) Nothing wrong with continuing to be interested.
Don’t overrate “passion.”
@peacelights offers a great way to look at it. Many kids, eg, devote lots of time to something in hs,and do hope to continue similarly. Others are ready to move on to new challenges and try new activities. Both can be valued by colleges.
If you would actually participate in all of these activities in college, I think it’s fine. It would probably look a little better if you acknowledged that there were one or two activities that you wouldn’t do though.
