I really really love davidson, but I’m worried about the academics. Are they really as tough as everyone says. Im dyslexic and worried about being to caught up in my academics to be able to have a social life and enjoy the college experience. Can someone please either tell me that they think it would be to difficult/ mass amounts of work or that it is manageable and that i would be able to succeed. Either answer i will not find offensive if you think i can’t make it here i just want peoples thoughts on the whole situation.
The workload is challenging, but manageable. This will be true at any top college. If you are taking challenging courses in high school and doing well, you should be okay. If you receive accomodations (e.g. more time on tests) at your current school, you may want to reach out to Davidson to ensure that you will be able to get similar accomodations.
My daughter is a freshman at Davidson. Davidson was always her first choice school and she loves nearly everything about the school. She’s made tons of friends and is much happier at Davidson than she ever was in high school. She is hearing impaired and her accommodations transitioned over seamlessly. I would definitely reach out to Nance Longworth, the Academic Access and Disability Resources Coordinator (nalongworth@davidson.edu). She’s very approachable and would be a great resource in determining if Davidson is a good fit. With all that said – Davidson classes are super tough. My daughter spends A LOT of time studying. To the point of limiting some of her extracurricular activities. I think that is someone influenced by possibly starting in the “wrong major” taking some classes that aren’t the best fit. As a reward – I think most employers and graduate schools recognize what a Davidson degree requires.
