I just don't understand...

I wrote a practice test today and I thought for sure that I had aced the CR (gotten mid-high 700s) but then I grade it and I only got 660-680. I seriously don't understand this. I was so confident in all my answers and every answer made complete sense to me and seemed to reiterate what was stated in the passage or I was able to reason with proof from the paragraph that the answer I chose was correct.

Yet, I still only got 660-680 with 9 errors and 1 omit! What do I do in the next 10 days to get back to low 700s? I just don't know what it going on.

The test I wrote was the Online Course Test Number 5.

What should I be doing in the last 10 days or so? I really don’t understand why I keep getting questions wrong. It seems like I’m getting everything wrong on the smallest details that I miss or things that seem so subjective. I seriously thought I had around a 760 coming on this test…but then, -12!

What should be my course of action for the next 10 days? I really need to get to ~740. I need to get to -7 RAW or in that range (710-750). I need to gain around 70 points in a week’s time…what do I do? My main problem is passage based (I usually do well on vocab but on this test I got about 2 wrong and 2 omit on vocab too though).

^^ Same situation.

720,720,780,760,690,670, 650.

I was vexed too. I kept on thinking what I did before to score a high score. The reason I had been scoring better on the first few tests was because I had JUST read Noitapep’s guide. I had been showing ACTUAL interest in the passages… it really works.

Also, try to cross off the wrong choices. It helps you concentrate on the perspective choices in better way.
But the main point remains to be calm and interested in the passages. A genuinely healthy approach to the CR does help. I scored 770 in yesterday’s practice test!
Eyes on the prize! :)

“I had been showing ACTUAL interest in the passages… it really works.”

yes

But I am trying to show interest in the passage. I just keep coming up with wrong answers and it’s not like I’m not reading the passage and am saying to myself, “Yup, that sounds pretty good, let’s choose it.” I’m genuinely trying to go back, reread, and find some proof.

I just don’t know why I’m struggling so much. I would be so happy if I could get back to mid 700s. Seriously, I’ll even settle for low 700s right now!

EDIT: I keep messing up on the 'The word _______ most nearly means: " questions, at least on the last test I did.

Since this is a new SAT ‘season’ do you think DH is good enough to get perfect on vocab? (the new DH books). Would trying to learn PR Hit Parade in the next week be necessary or would it be a good idea? My goal is 0 or -1 on vocab, and -4 on passage based…so I can get to around -6, which would be low-mid 700s.

Also, how should I approach test taking from now on? I was planning on taking a practice test every day until Wednesday next week, which is when I’d completely shut it down and chill to give my mind a break before the test.

I went from 670-690 CR over the summer to 750-770 in my last two practice tests by adopting a few different strategies.

Noitaraperp’s guide is a must. I started quickly reviewing the questions and bracketing the lines/ underlining key words.

I started (just for practice) to write down the main idea, tone, important events, purpose, etc. until I started to just do it all mentally (more active reading).

Make sure that the answers are substantiated. They literally do need to be defended in a court of law or else The College Board would lose a ton of money in law suits.

Vocab: Direct Hits (only volume 1 2011 ed.), PR’s Hit Parade, and my dictionary app worked well enough for me to get 19/19 two times in a row.

I’ve also been reading Forbes, NY Times, and Catch-22 the past few weeks and supplementing my SAT prep with GMAT passage questions for extra practice and technique refinement.

Right now the the questions that usually trip me up are author tone, or what would the author agree with questions besides the occasional wild card.

I hope that helps you as much as it helped me.
