I Just Got A 50% On My AP Physics Test! Should I drop the class?

First quarter is ending this Friday and I just got an F on my second test of the year. I had an A in the class prior to the test, so I’m assuming I have a C now, but this test was supposed to be easy. I’m afraid that if I fail the easy stuff, I won’t be able to do the hard stuff later.

I just moved schools this year (I’m a junior) and my old school didn’t teach me everything that I’m expected to know here. I’ve been to see my teacher during tutorial almost every day for the past few weeks, but I don’t get much done because my teacher has to help other kids too. I want to do well in the class, and I’m willing to work as hard as possible for it. I’m just not sure staying in the class is my best option. Any advice?

What would be the alternative? Would you add another class?

Typically, a bad grade on a test isn’t a reason to drop a class, but if you received an F, I think it’s reasonable.

Insufficient information provided. What was the class mean/median on the exam, for starters?

Can you get a tutor who can focus on your needs and fill in any knowledge gaps you may have?

@littlestarr - Can you connect with the teacher and ask him/her if you are likely to be successful in this class moving forward? One poor test isn’t enough to indicate outcomes - see if you can understand why you did so poorly and learn from it. Does this teacher scale?
