I JUST GOT A LOR REQUEST FROM BERKELEY

IS THE UC 3.6 GPA DREAM POSSIBLE?

What do you mean you got an LOR request from Berkeley? UC’s do not require students to submit LORs.

UC’s don’t but i went online and checked and its a new policy. http://admissions.berkeley.edu/freshmanpolicy

@CIRCUITDEBATER: UCB started a pilot program last year by selecting random applicants to submit LOR’s and it seems like they are doing it again this year. UC’s do not require applicants to submit LOR’s but UCB will email applicants if they have been selected to submit them to help in their application review. If you are not selected, you cannot send them.

@DaCheaPet: Make the best of this opportunity and Good Luck.

What does this mean? Does it mean your chances of getting in are better now?

I guess you could say that? But I’m not really sure of the whole thing myself. I don’t know if it was something sent automatically to applicants or if it was the reviewer who requested for more information regarding my application.

After much debate the general conclusion last year was that it was pretty randomized. I was sent the request and submitted two LOR. In the end I was not accepted.

@10s4life what was your major? Also, what were your grades, sat/act?

LOR requests seems to be random. Both high and low stats applicants got it last year.

@johnlimster
I applied to the COE for Mechanical Engineering. That and Stanford are the only schools I did not get into. I am now an Electrical Engineering Major at UCLA.
My stats are:
UW GPA: 4.0
UC GPA: 4.4
Uncapped: 4.68
SAT: 2020
ACT: 31
Math 2 Subject Test: 750
US History Subject Test: 770
Bio E Subject Test: 720
11 APs all 4’s and 5’s
ECs:
Heavy involvement in Student Government
Recruited Athlete for D2 and D3 in tennis

definitely random – My D and two of her friends got the LOR request last year and my D was the only one accepted

Do we get LOR requests through Berkeley portal or email?
