I rushed my SAT scores a few days ago to all the colleges I am applying to. I have a few apps due November 1 for scholarship/early stuff and I saw that it takes college board 3-5 weeks to send your scores but 2 business days if you rush. Rushing is $26 flat to rush one or 50 colleges your scores. I know I lost $26 by waiting till October to send my scores, but noone told me that it would take up to 5 weeks to mail a document. Just a heads up to people applying early and forgot to send their scores.

Question for you- did you call College Board to rush the scores? Do you have to wait until AFTER you take the test to rush them?

I was told that you don't even have to rush them (even for an EA deadline), although I don't know about all schools. This was specifically brought up at many of those "meet the admissions people" things, and they said they don't need the scores by the deadline, they only need them by the time they go into committee in December...so you might have to rush November ones but even with those they were sort of iffy on the answer saying they would most likely get there in time but if you wanted the piece of mind to rush them in case there was a problem you might be better off doing that. Before anyone rushes at this point they may want to ask the admissions people at the schools in question to see if this is really necessary or if scores can come after the deadline. Although of course if your scores are really outstanding then I guess you may want them there to enhance the application in the initial review.

Rushing is probably just a way for them to get more money. Maybe I'm missing something, but with all the technology available I don't really see why it should take up to five weeks to send something...it's not they score and process this all by hand or anything. I mean I could understand like a week or two, but up to five even your results weren't flagged or anything? Seems excessive, maybe just a way to encourage people to pay a rushing fee. Although with how expensive all this SAT stuff is, I'm surprised it's "only" $26 (I didn't know how much rushing was before, I had assumed it would be more like $50). But College Board is a business, so I suppose it's to be expected.

Well I never thought about when colleges actually needed the scores. I was scared to death, realizing I had exactly 3 weeks to November 1. I want everything in so they can process my app quickly and easily. I did not have time to ask an adcom or admissions office, or anyone. I took my last test in June so all CB has to do is print the scores out and mail it in if not just electronically send the scores. With technology today, they should be able to email the scores after I tell them which colleges to send them to. 5 weeks scared me so I just decided to send in the scores (especially since I have a rolling school or two).

CB is the devil and just wants our money. Why else is it $10 to send a score and $90 to take an AP test? They must be stoppped.

To be safe and maybe save some money, I would call or email each school's admissions office. I think that some schools (larger ones?) automatically receive scores every other week, making rushing unnecessary. From our experience, there seems to be a lot of variability amongst different schools as to whether the score must be there at or very near the EA/ED deadline, or if they will wait a few weeks.
