I JUST Sent my SAT Scores

I just sent my SAT scores to Columbia. I heard that scores take about four weeks to send, even though the deadline is January 1st (in a little over one week). Will this affect my chances?

Also, my counselor is not answering my calls, and he may not even send my school forms by the deadline. Will Columbia even consider me at this point?

scores don’t take 4 weeks to send. even if they did, columbia accepts scores from the jan test date, so they would obviously also accept scores received before that jan test date.

school forms may be a slight problem but, firstly, is not your responsibility, and the admissions office recognizes this. i also imagine you’re being a bit paranoid (ie. he probably will send the forms in time). however, if he sends them a bit late it’s fine. the only truly strict deadline is your commonapp one. it takes them about a month, maybe a little less, to completely process all the documents they receive anyway, and provided they get your school forms sometime in that time frame there probably won’t be a problem. besides, if they don’t have it and they need it, they will call your guidance office, say “We don’t have xxxxxx’s school forms, you need to fax them over to us.” or something like that.

short answer: it’s fine, calm down.

sorry to intrude on your question but its sort of related!

If I take the January SATs as a senior, although I know which colleges will accept my scores, does it look like an “act of desperation” ? I’m applying to three ivies and a couple other highly ranked schools.

I doubt that’s the case. I took the SAT and ACT in October, and an SAT Subject test in November as an ED applicant to Columbia and was admitted.
