For example, what if you were forced to choose a lesser (typically viewed as a BS AP) class over for example, AP Chem, because your schedule could not work out and you could not take that other class, but your school offers it. How do the colleges know??

In my case, I've never taken a Bio or Chem class (not offered to underclassmen) And I'm forced to take AP Art History instead of AP Chem because of schedule conflicts. Though I still have AP Physics: Mechanics, I won't be able to take Bio or Chem until senior year. And I can do absolutely nothing about it.

I mean, the colleges will look at the school's profile and see that I didn't take the most rigorous classes available. But they fail to see that there may have been schedule conflicts that kept me from taking more rigorous classes.

Oh yeah, and btw, I know my case isn’t /that/ bad. However, I’m still curious as to whether colleges consider schedule conflicts when looking at applicants’ classes. If not, is it worth mentioning in the “Extra information” section of the college apps?

Explain your situation in the extra info section of the common app and/or have your counselor explain it in her recommendation/report as well.

Oh, and AP Art History is not a BS “lesser class”…it’s actually a lot of work that shouldn’t be laughed at. Hmm, think AP US History, but with a focus on art and, depending on your teacher, more essays (at least for me).

I often wonder about that as well. My school is adding 3 online AP’s this year, and it’s my senior year.

AP Lit is only offered 4th period, DE Gov is 6th and 7th period. Online classes are only offered 4th-7th period, so my only available slot is 5th period for an online class, and I have three AP’s to choose from.

Two of them are Calc AB and Physics B, meaning there’s no way I can possibly take both wihout sacrificing the highest level of English or the highest level of Gov.

I don’t know if I should bother mentioning it though. I might though, just because I know my GC won’t.
