Also, I have one question:

Someone told me that for Cornell, you have to write a good essay.

Is this true? Or are stats more important?

Hugs and kisses to all those who reply.

Oops...I forgot to add one thing to my EC list:

I am on the Youth Advisory Committe for this major, national art project!

Also..tell me if these things are helpful:

I often travel to other countries (such as Japan, Mexico, Cuba etc.) as an exchange student so I know a lot about other cultures.

I also went on this political tour thing from our school where we actually got to go to Ottawa (for those who don't know, it is the Canada's capital city) and got to meet the Prime Minister!

I also worked for Banana Republic and the Cactus Club as a part of the school outreach program.

I am also an active partipant of making the school newsletter that gets send home along with the report cards.

I also got some minor awards for Piano, performed in local fairs for Taichi.

My mom is a prof and my dad is a doctor. So I have no financial problems but my parents don't want to pay for me if I am going to the U.S. so I NEED to get some kind of scholarship.

Yeah...I think that's it.

Thanks again! :) :) :)

it's really hard for international students to get full rides/scholarships though you should still give Cornell a shot!!

lightfish: Please help me, too.
1. When you mention about "full rides," you mean both tuition and room and board or just full tuition scholarship?
2. I intend to transfer to Cornell in my junior year but the financial burden is huge. I am an international student. Is there any chance for me to come to Cornell and pay only 1k-1.5k/year?

Thank you all for your help.

Canadians get need blind admissions consideration at Cornell. Your financial need doesn't affect your decision at all, unlike other intels.

Yeah, unless by international, you hold permanent resident statues in Canada, but are a citizen of another country other than USA, Canada or Mexico. Cornell is needblind to citizens of Canada and Mexico too. So it really depends on your family financial situation. If your family net income is less than 40k, then I think they'll give you a "full ride."

I'm in the same boat as you, applying from Canada that is. However your stats look really good, so keep up the good work!

No scratch that, if you have PR or citizen in Canada, you're eligible for needblind consideration.

If you are determined to have financial need by Cornell, they meet 100% of that need (I think)
Yes, for a Canadian, you are doing very well. By the way, what's your GPA in %?

I know I've prolly said this already, but CORNELL IS NEED BLIND TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS in that your ability to pay is not factored into the admissions decision. However, they will rarely meet your need.

your scores and activities look great - but each school has a different percentage of admission and look for different things... so it depends on which one of the colleges you plan to apply to....

menosdetres: Thanks for your reply. I am thinking of applying for the college of arts and sciences (I think?) or maybe...just maybe life sciences as well. So, according to that, do you think I have a fairly good chance?

All others: Thanks! It's very encouraging to hear that Cornell is need blind towards Canadians (Yes, I am a citizen). However, as I stated above, my family is really quite well-off so I don't know if I will get any aid. Any aid is helpful! Aid will definitely make my parents change their minds.

canadaeh: My GPA by percentage is: 91%

I think it is really low according to some people on this thread. But here in Canada, the whole scoring system is different. So 91% here is like really quite good. Plus, I go to a really prestigious school here and like the adcoms from Princeton, Harvard and some other schools (not Cornell) have connections with this career/post-secondary coordinator here so I get lost of info in school. So yeah, I think my school is fairly competitive (ranked 3rd in province).

Okay then. I gotta run. Thanks again for all the very encouraging replies. Keep those coming! =)

86-100 = A = 4.0?

Yes, that's right. So my average is a 91% (not very high i know)

I am an international student from Asia, :-( it means there is no chance for me to have full need fin'l aid, right?

ok...let me explain this
(ive said it atleast a 100 times on this forum thou)

NEED BLIND: Ur decision's not dependant on ur need

MEETING UR NEED: a whole diffefrent issue

thou u may be admitted at Cornel...if ur an int'l, either be ready to cough up the dough or search for another college

Okay...but I guess Canadians are okay right? There's 5 people from my school that's going to Cornell this year! 3 of them got scholarships.

Could someone please rate my chance at Cornell? It is a match or a reach for me?

It would be very much appreciated.

Hugs and kisses to all. =)

It's not really a "scholarship" in the Canadian sense. Your marks don't factor into your aid package because Cornell can't give merit aid.

I am bumping this. :p

OK. So it's been a while. But I need to know.

I took the SAT again. I think I scored higher on CR and Writing because they were easier this time. I don't really care about Math. I totally just randomly guessed the hard questions.

Do you guys think it will be really bad if I did bad on my math this time round? I mean, i scored a 780 on my last test but on this one i think i got more than 5 wrong. Will this look really bad???

Maybe I am worrying too much.

Another thing:

For this summer, do you guys think I should go on this prestigious research program (in local university) for a month or should I take summer school so that I can get my SAT II (CHEM) over with? (For those of you who don't know, the courses here are wayy easier than in the States, so i must take chem 12 in summer school in order to get SAT II (CHEM) over with.)

So what do you guys think?

Research or summer school? Omg, I really can't decide...........................

all (or at least most) colleges only look at your highest score for each section of the SAT. so if you did worse than 780, no worries.
