I'm signed up to start at the local community college this coming fall to enter the EMT prgram and work as a paramedic by the time I graduate high school so I can afford to go to a 4,6,8 year college. My GPA is something like a solid B because honors history and english and remedial math and science cancel each other out. I want to help people make their cities better by helping bills be ratified or abolished wherever called for and mabey work in foreign affairs and/or with the UN or red cross/crescent or something. More or less I want to listen to people, find out what's wrong and why, then fix it, or at least find a way to make it desirably better. I don't know what this major is called (it won't be "lawyer" or "cop"). help me out? I can't name what it will be called. I will need to know a lot about government, but a political science major seems less appealing than, say, a humanities major. I'm a bit worried, but it IS a little over a year away, do there shouldn't be too much stress, then it's just unnecessary worry heh.

I think you've described a career in Public Policy.

Majors that lead this are Public Policy (duh ;)), Sociology, Human Service, and Public Adminsitration. There are probably more if you want to consider Law, Government, Justice, etc.

ETA: Here's a link that describes Public Policy: Public Policy Analysis

I would think maybe a cultural anthropologist might fit in there somewhere.

I agree with the sugestion of public policty. You'll probably need a masters degree, but they usually don't take too long for MPP. You could major in government. If you want to work for the UN you'll need to know several different languages.
