I know you guys hate sophomore threads but....

I really want to know how my chances are so far and what I should improve do this summer and the rest high school.
The colleges I want to go to are: UVA (maybe echols scholar), Johns Hopkins, VCU (honors program) - these are some pre-med colleges that I like the most around where I live.

And heres my info:

Gender: M
Heritage: Indian (born in India.. both parents born in India.. moved here at age 6 and learned how to speak English before Kindergarden started)
Location: Forest, Virginia
College Class Year: 2013
High School: Public
High School Type: sends some grads to top schools (around 7ish)

Academics: (after the end of this sophomore year)
GPA - Unweighted: 3.88
GPA - Weighted: 4.00
Class Rank: top 10% (i'm aiming for top 10 overall at end of senior year so it'll be top 3% or better.. I slacked freshman year and got 2 B's but after harder classes this year I have straight A's)
Class Size: 366

Scores:
PSATs sophomore year: 192
Guess for PSAT next year (lowest I think I'll get to my goal): 205-220+
Guess for SAT next year: (lowest I think I'll get to my goal): 2050-2250+
AP European History (guess 4 or 5)
I'll be taking about 7 or 8 AP exams before I graduate and maybe 2 or 3 SAT subject tests.

Extra Curriculars:
Clubs/activities:
-Key Club
-Spanish Club
-Varsity Club - those with Athletic and academic varsity letter
-NHS (will be in it)- pretty selective at our school
-Latin Club

Sports:
-Indoor Track - Varsity Letter
-Outdoor Track
-Cross Country
-Rec. Soccer
-Rec. Basketball

Volunteer Service Work:
-Volunteering at the Lynchburg General Hospital since end of 10th grade.
-Relay for Life - one year
-Perfect attendance almost every year but 8th (went to india for 6 weeks)
-Participated in the 9th Annual Central Virginia Kidney Association Memorial Day 10K

Awards/Acceptances:
-Accepted to Central Virginia's Governor's School - a school for Science and Technology. (take 3 classes there and 3 classes at my normal high school)
For more info: http://www.cvgs.k12.va.us/
-International High IQ Society - need a 142 IQ (got accepted in the 8th grade)
-Participated at annual school trig-star competition in 10th grade and got 3rd place in our school

But anyway what do you think are my chances at those 3 schools mentioned above (please give me %s and/or words (reach/safety)).

Any other schools I should apply for?

What else should I do to stay on track for these colleges?

Keep up what you're doing--you should be fine for UVA.

Yes, you are looking very good at UVA--but remember that Echols has almost nothing to do with lots of ECs--its about your passion for your particular area of knowledge.

To quote DeanJ of UVA:

"We're getting more questions about Echols/Rodman this year than ever before. Some people don't even know what it is, just that's a special designation and they want it.

I'm especially surprised when students with no major or academic passion question our Echols/Rodman decisions."

--this was posted by him on 4/12/2007 if you want to read the entire thread.

P.S. I do not mind sophomores posting on here. Many juniors are asking what they can do to improve their chances at the top schools--and I'd like to tell them to be active in math competitions like AIME and science competitions--but as juniors going into the senior year--it is too late for them. For sophomores going into the junior year, they should be asking about this early. --And even if you are a freshman going into the sophomore year--it is important to know that at many schools freshman year doesn't count, but sophomore year does (like at Princeton, Stanford, and the University of California campuses).

thanks for the advice cal.. I'm trying to find out more medical related things I can do.

Top 10 at a school that sends few to top colleges will not make you an Echols scholar. However, all these schools are possible if you do well on the SATs.

yeah but won't UVA know that the B's were in my Freshman year and that i've done better ever year after? and my class is REALLY smart(er) then the previous classes. I'm guessing that instead of 7 around 12-15 make it to top colleges.. And in that governor's school (includes 6 area schools) theres much more... out of the 54 probalby 40 go to top colleges with 10 going to HYPS

bump? how are my chances at other schools also? can I get into a higher school? and what do you other guys think about UVA?

bump can i get more than 2 real answers lol?
