I know you're tired of this, but Chances and Affordability (OOS) for me?

Age: 17

Location: Wichita, Kansas

Class: 2010 (going to be a senior)

GPA: 3.74 Unweighted 3.94 Weighted

AP/Honors: English 9,10,11 Honors, AP US History, Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, Took Algebra 2 as a freshman.

ACT: 34

EC's: 3 years football, 2 years tennis, 3 years marching band, 2 years concert band, 1 year Business Professionals of America, 3 years NHS, Boy Scouts (not an Eagle yet), 2 years of Model United Nations, Church Group Leader for 1 year, Newspaper (sports editor).

Plan on doing ROTC so that takes 17,000/year out of the OOS tuition.

Other schools I'm looking at, in order of priority:

TCU, University of Texas, Rice, University of Illinois (cold!)

Texas A&M, West Point, Air Force Academy

Baylor, Oklahoma State

Kansas State

Being OOS puts you in a really bad spot when applying to UT. You will have better chances applying to Rice. lol :)

Btw, what is your rank? UT seems to be obsessed with it

My bad, forgot rank.

70 out of 490 unweighted, 45 out of 490 weighted.

I would think your chances are pretty good. You ACT score is excellent and your class rank is in the top 10%. Even though you are out of state, it is still important. You also seem to be well rounded, with lots of extra curriculars. We can only guess how the new law will affect oos applicants, but give it a shot! It is a great University!

Hi! I am going to be a freshman at UT, and I am from Nebraska. Woot for the Midwest! I applied to KState and KU :). I had pretty similar stats . . . 34 on the ACT, 4.00, lots of extracurriculars, etc. I did do about 8 AP classes, and was top one percent of my class. But there was another girl from my high school who was not in the top percent of our class who got into, and is attending, UT Austin. Part of getting in OOS is your major - some are much easier to get into than others. Any thoughts of what you will be studying? She got in as an education major, even though she’s going to transfer to business. Education, communications, and geosciences seem to be less competitive, while business, architecture and engineering are more difficult.

As far as affordability, they’ll give you ridiculous loans and some good federal grants. I got about 12k in grants based off a very small estimated contribution, as the max for OOS, but it’s different for everyone.

Let me know if you have questions for me - I wish I would have known someone from OOS when I was applying! Good luck!

I plan on studying Political Science.

Thanks for the help guys.

If they send the weighted rank, likely yes, if they send the unweighted rank likely not.
