I like the Campus BUT,,,,,

I encourage others to not engage in conversation with WP. It is really futile. Look up his posts on other threads. He is doing the same sort of stuff on the Grove City College thread!

Hahahahahaha okay, I had to guffaw at the mental image here, Whistle Pig!

So now that I’ve read through this rather tense thread, I will be very interested to see Juniata and Huntingdon with my own eyes. My daughter will be attending a volleyball camp there for a week this summer so it will be an early peek. She’s a rising junior so this year will be when we really start looking at schools. Btw, Grove City College is on our list also.
Guess I’ll be getting to know Whistle Pig, then! ;-)

vandy … you know the Jack Nicholson line, “you can’t handle the truth!” ? Take note. And remember, it’s summatime in Htown! Even the prisons look better when the grass is cut and neatly edged. Lots of cheap labor’ll do it.

Now, know my view on GCC … great students, virtually all white, Christian, decent fams, and more. But … there’s a rat in their woodpile. There is no way the college can be compared to Wheaton or many other institutions with their model. And while many beg their case for how they educate students for half the tuition while proclaiming they are disallowed to raise funds for endowment (and they’ve not). You are astute in your analysis, it seems, and I urge you to read some of the GCC stuff. I’m confident you’ll grasp the real issue which is this … IF GCC has somehow discovered some magic model for educating students at half the cost of its alleged competitors, then it owes the world, as an avowedly “Christian” institution to come clean. They won’t. (The issues, btw, are tied up in labor costs …) Because they cannot afford to explain to their constitutents how it is done … it would expose the qualitative issues. Look at it and tell us what you think.

Now, to Juniata. Beyond the oxymoron of Brethren college (remember, this the sect that like its Amish “brethren”, places little value in scholastic education sponsoring higher ed! There are 6 others, all generally decent, undistinguished places.), it is a decent place with two particular niches … lots of BS degrees for science students, and great womens vball teams in a sport in which only a handful of NCAA schools take it at all seriously. Not a bad place, but anyone perceiving Htown as a garden spot college town? Well, each to her own. It’s one of the few section 8 oases between Philly and Pgh. And that low cost housing is sucked up in a county with high unemployment and 2 SCIs housing 300+ death row inmates. Their families go, find low-rent housing, and stay. Lots of drug activity/capita. Stay overnight and take a leisurely stroll past Crawford Place and Church Street. Stop in the puff n snuff for a cold drink …

And I understand the defensiveness of posters. Too much already invested emotionally, genetically, and financially. Too little capacity or inclination for discernment. Remember Sgt. Schultz in Stalag 13? And when the defense is weak, shoot the messenger… And that’s the name of this tune. ;)

Whistle Pig, do you actually feel endangered in Huntingdon? Really?? It seems like an extremely safe city to me. According to crime data since 2001, there hasn’t been any murders. There hasn’t been a rape since 2004. There have been only 2 robberies since 2001. In 2009 it’s overall crime index was 56, compared to 319 for the national average.

[Huntingdon, Pennsylvania (PA 16652, 16654) profile: population, maps, real estate, averages, homes, statistics, relocation, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, moving, houses, news, sex offenders](http://www.city-data.com/city/Huntingdon-Pennsylvania.html)

Seems like a very safe community to me.

Have you been to NY, Philly, or Boston?

Dr.Daddy …I’d NEVER go on that campus w/o packing heat! Smith & Wesson’s, Ruger, Glocks abound there. Thank God for “Permit to Carry.”

Heck, about 3 blocks from campus 3 doped-up dudes were just arrested a week ago for attempted murder …AK-47, .12 gauge, and a bunch of pop-guns. One guy’s arm was hamburgered. High on bath salt! All!! I’m tellin’ you …it’s NOT SAFE! Apparently they thought they were shooting @ college kids.

What kinda practice, Mr.MD? Your offspring’d be a real rarity @ JC, I suspect.

Have spoken to a few students about the OCC course during freshman year. All have advised to postpone if you can. I have worked out a course sequence that allows OCC in sophomore year, and allows for biology requirements to be finished in 4 years. If you want a teacher certification, I advise getting a MA plus teachercertification . Cab discuss further and send the outline.

NY GI-ant … w/ all due respect, isn’t that what a college student’s supposed to do?

No…I think a parent has to look at the courses to make sure the DS or DD is not set up for failure.

hmmm, ok. Can’t say ma or pa ever monitored or validated my pre-registration, but whatever …

More interestingly, perhaps, I did have a young man on my floor that his mom had made a chart for him, matrix kinda thing, indicating which shirts, shoes, sox, shorts, etc. might be worn with which slacks. He survived his mother’s good intentions for her little fella  but barely his mates’ mighty harassment. It was brutal but totally necessary, it seemed.

My parents never went to college, so they were in no position to offer any help as to courses I should take in a pre-med sequence.
At $45,000/year tuition and costs, I do have to question what is the proper sequence of courses.
There is a proper sequence of courses one takes…and no where in the country is organic chemistry taken freshman year, except for Juniata. This is a set up for failure.
I guess I could take a hands off position…but who turns the education of a DD or a DS to a stranger?

Ignore the ■■■■■, nygiant. He is well known in the Juniata forum. Do not engage him. It will be fruitless.

Nor mine. You make a good point in light of JC’s unique presentation about the hybrid organic. It’s set up for sorting, perhaps.

MDdaddy! Welcome back! Now, no need for name-calling, altho we duly note your own need to let us know who you are! Wow! Cool! Still you never answered the questions about your practice. Any insights for readers? My money’s on proctology since you seem to have a keen, dare I say insight, to such things.

Note incoming freshman class declined 12% over previous year; down 17% from 2008 …

Apparently taking more int students; going into partnership w/ community college.

Most students from PA.
