i agree with demeter, i actually dont think ANY of the actors cast met my expectations (granted, they were very high). for example, emma was, i dont know, too scrawny/skinny and a little prettier than hermy should have been.

but the characters who should have been played by people way hotter include:
Harry (i dont like radcliffe, especially in the beginning movies. he's gotten a little better though)
maybe ron
Sirius, definitely!
snape (though the actor has kinda grown on me)
remus
James!
FRED AND GEORGE!!!!!!!
and i thought seamus was kinda creepy looking
more, i cant think of any now

I actually imagined Fred and George to be chubby, short and round. And I thought snape would have a more hooked nose, maybe a wart or two..

Kimbojin,
Man i thought i was the only person going for draco and hermione! But sadly, i heard that rowling said that they arnt gonna be together.

emma watson was what I expected hermione to be like in the first movie.. but i saw these other pics of her (in premiers) and i was like, wow! she's a pretty little girl

Ron is my absolute FAVORITE!!! I heard that when they were holding auditions for the Harry Potter movies, he dressed up in a dress and danced around on tape to get attention. That is so COOL!!!!

Hermione was much more annoying in the movies than the books.. She was prettier than I thought she'd be, Loved Sirius, but I was still sad over the death of the actor who played Dumbledore. Draco's way better than Harry... and Oliver Wood turned out better than I expected. Also thought Fred and George were a bit shorter. Snape, McGonagall, and Trelawney were fantastic. Ron was just irritating in the books, but I admit that he was a better actor than the rest of the trio in the first few movies. When rereading the books, I've found I increasingly dislike the trio, except Harry.
And just a note- Rowling's intended audience now is young adult/adult fiction. Rumor that she killed off our beloved Snuffles because she wanted to get this across. I'm still hoping he'll come back... should've killed Ron off instead.

I read lots of fanfics on Hermione and Draco and they were hilarious--but awesome. Although Rowling has already announced that these two wouldn't be together, we can still imagine them spitting love fire on each other. ^_^.
Anyways, concerning the ron-hermione-harry love issue, I personally like to think of Ron and Hermione going out. It is quite obvious since book 4 during the Yule Ball-Ron's jealousy over Hermione's attention to Krum. There is definitely this going back and forth fling between the two though they havent admitted it in public yet. Harry and Hermione in the other hands are just friends. There are many indications during the fifth when they are together and how Harry's trying to protect her. (pushes her behind him grabs her hand and runs) These are the times when they're in danger so it's the best that Harry does to protect his friend and it's absolutely reasonable.

To be honest, only a few of the actors and actresses in the movie meet my expectations. Certainly not Daniel Radcliffe (he's kinda ugly now), not even Emma Watson (too skinny and prettier than the real Hermione should be) and the guy who play Ron (too much blank expression on his face). Professor McGanagall and even Snape are good. In the first book, James Potter is a real down down (he looks to have neat brown hair...) Like many people already mentioned...Sirius should look hotter.

I think Professor McGonagall and Snape were both good characters in the movies; they were just like I imagined them to be. Except, perhaps, that too-dramatic entrance Snape made in the first movie. I thought it was a bit out of character. But Alan Rickman is an incredible actor. I think he played Colonel Brandon in -Sense and Sensibility-, and I really liked him in that movie.

Professor Trelawney was NOT what I expected. She wasn't very insect-like, and I thought she'd be, well, taller and skinnier. Not to mention the fact that before PoA came out, I had just watched -Much Ado About Nothing- in school, and the lady who played Beatrice in the movie was Professor Trelawney. So that felt a bit weird.

I think Fred and George were wonderful in the movie. Couldn't have picked a better set of twins.

Actually, the other day as I was getting off the T, I saw this kid who would've made a PERFECT Harry appearance-wise. His face was incredibly young-ish, but he was also tall and lanky for his age. His skin was too pale, but I think that'd make sense for Harry, since he spent the first ten years of his life in a cupboard (most of the time). The hair was perfect, too. Messy and a very dark brown. I didn't want to stare and creep out him and his mother, so I didn't get to see his eye color.

demeter i do that too! i see people on the streets, and in my school, and i think of how much they resemble characters from harry potter or other novels. like theres this senior who graduated from my school who looked exactly like a malfoy, only he was too nice

Alan Rickman is a good actor, but he's much too old for the part. Snape is supposed to be in his mid-thirties, and Rickman is almost 60.

Whoever plays McGonagall is too old; she's supposed to have black hair, not gray. Granted, she's 70 in Phoenix, but in wizard age that's middle-aged (Dumbledore is 150).

I don't think Emma Watson is pretty. She's too scrawny, and I just don't like her face, especially not as Hermione.

I hate how they portray Ron in the movie; they've made him a parody of himself.

Finally, was it so damned hard to give Dan Radcliffe colored contacts? Failing that, how about CGI? When the book makes such a big deal out of his green eyes, I don't think that should be overlooked.
