Honestly I feel like Im alone here. I was talking to someone and told him that I didnt like HP and hes all "Dude you have no soul. You are dead inside." I just never liked the damn books everyones goin nuts about. My gf said that "harry potter is the hottest fictional character alive." What is with everyone? Its just another stupid idea that some lady is cashing in on like crazy.

It's not just the character, it's the story. It lets people get away from reality for a while, and it's interesting :-)

I'm with you. The whole fantasy thing never was big on me. Just a little weird.

Yes, you have no soul. None whatsoever.

No, but really, I understand that Harry Potter is just not for everyone. But those people (and you don't yet appear to be one of them) who go around on these "Harry Potter sucks, so shut up!" tirades are annoying and pathetic and usually have no idea what they are talking about, never having read a single page from the series before. Let us have our fun.

Haha ignorance in any field is annoying.

I read the first four books, and then I had a personality change, and it just didn't fit anymore... So I stopped reading that, and moved on to Huxley and Nietzche.

great choice Vis!

harry potter is stupid. I read a chapter of the first book, and then was, you know what, i'm not wasting my time reading fifth grade level stuff. I don't care what happens to that game thing with the stick, or harry glasses, cuase the only reason JK rowling writes is to get $$$ It's so unrealitic too. No one's life is perfect, so deal with it.

I'm actually not that fond of the Harry Potter books. They're pass-time if I'm bored and just don't have anything else to do (though I admit, the 6th one was surprisingly quite suspenseful). I never finished the 4th one and only finished the 5th last week.
The stories are good but the books are terribly dragged out. I think all of the books could easily be shortened to just a few hundred pages. I swear the fifth book had about 100 pages of everybody just cleaning the house! There were just a few important details that we found out, but I found that part altogether boring. I wouldn't mind as much if JKR could be a bit more concise.
I also dont like the redundancy in her vocabulary. I know it's supposed to be a children's book. But if I heard the read the word "abusing" one more time in the 6th book I would have chucked it out the window. It's obnoxious!

I read from a wide range of literature, including Huxley. Getting into something that is below your reading level does not make you less of an intellectual, or less of a capable reader. It's not as though Harry Potter fans ONLY read Harry Potter. At least, I would hope not.

I dont go out and go ra ra ra I hate HP but I still dont like it. I read the first book, wasnt amazed and dont care to read anymore of it. Just everyone calls me a huge loser for not reading it. The irony :P

I hate when people go on rants about how Harry Potter is "children's literature" and all that. Even if it is written on a sub-par level of English (even though she DOES try, and obviously uses a thesaurus quite often--how many freakin' times did she have to use 'surrepticiously' in the 6th book!?), it's still quite entertaining and does not detract from one in any way intellectually.

I have the 6th book sitting on my shelf next to books by Robert Pirsig, David Mamet, Chuck Palahniuk, Alex Garland, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Bret Easton Ellis, Tom Wolfe, Mark Z. Danielewski, Salman Rushdie, Harmony Korine, Anthony Burgess, William Shakespeare, Dostoyevski, Homer, I mean come on, I could go on....

I mean, come on, even the Lemony Snicket books were fun! That doesn't make me any less intelligent...

Harry Potter is ridiculously retarted. I went to Books a Million to get a cup of coffee and read like I normally do once a week or so and I forgot it was the day the book came out. Wow, the freaks were coming out of the woodwork. It was RIDICULOUS.

okay, the fans can be lame.

very lame.

but nonetheless, it's quite entertaining and very enjoyable. while the WRITING ITSELF might not be top-notch the STORY/STORIES definitely is/are.

I read the first book, and it didn
t interest me at all. While I don
t go around criticizing people who LOVE the book, I still don`t get why people rave about it so much....

I hate harry potter. He's pretty gay.

I don't see why its so good. I... just don't see it. Its nothing special at all to me.

i hate harry potter too!

I've really tried to like it but. Ya know, it just doens't work. ANd Ron and the one girl annoy me through out the book. ANd Harry is ugly.

I saw the movie. Oh man what a retarded ending!

"FOr destorying all of hogwarts and breaking every single rule, I give yourhouse just enough points to be those bastardly Slithersnuff kids!"

very true.
I just had to mention it because it was bothersome. I don't hate the HP series anyway - I just wouldn't call myself a fan.

Never read any of them, never plan on reading of them. I guess that puts me in the hate category.

Wow. It really is impossible for people to intelligently argue/have a discussion on this forum. It always ends up with words like "retarded" and "gay" being thrown around. Congratulations, guys.
