Hi everyone,
I’m a freshman at Tufts, and I’m thinking of transferring to a different school (preferably in California). I’m not sure if I stand a chance for transfer to any school that has the same/similar academic level of Tufts. I was thinking about transferring after my first semester here, mainly because of the rising tuition (tuition has risen again for the next year, and it increased for this year as well). Then the idea went away for a while because I realized my GPA is pretty low for transferring. And now it came back. This time it’s mostly due to how Tufts is overwhemingly liberal, and it is very much an echo chamber. Everyone says that open discourse is encouraged at Tufts, but I have seen instances where my classmates have been rudely shut down by a lot of people on Facebook, at the dining halls, etc. Some open discourse that is. I guess because I know I don’t fit in with the political views of the majority here (I’m a moderate), it’s hard for me to feel comfortable talking about some topics because I know I’ll get destroyed. As a freshman who was definitely disillusioned by how “quirky” and “welcoming” Tufts was, this was a huge disappointment (it was also my top choice so lol). The only plus side are the few friends I’ve made and the teaching/academics here. So - should I still consider transferring or not? I was thinking UCLA, UCSD, Berkeley. (I’m a CA Resident by the way, so tuition would be a lot cheaper.)
Thanks!
Note: Other factors include me wanting to be closer to my family since they need my help sometimes. And a lame one is the weather. But that’s pretty important to me (I am not built for the Northeast). Also, I realize Berkeley is VERY liberal…my top school to transfer to would be UCLA. My friend goes there and says it’s okay.
