I Made It, I Made It!!!!!!!!

More congrats to R2D2 and Mandiee. Did your letters also arrive on March 7? We're still hoping to get one from UCSC.

I wonder if they are admitting by department. Any guesses why some last week, some this week and some not yet?

Marzz,

Here's what the HS counselor got from UCSC admissions last week:

"More than 23,000 freshman apps; admitting approx. 17,000
Have already admitted 11,000+, continuing to look at other students and hope to have decisions out in next week to ten days"

So I think it's not by department. The bad news is 11000 out of 17000 admitted already. The good news is there's 6000 more (as of last week)

Congratulations, I was admitted as well, just found out today. Maybe I'll see you next year, I'm not sure if I'm going there or not.

and you got to figure out of those 6,000 the gpa's arent very comeptitive... i'm sure they're looking deeper... essays,ec's, ect... i got my acceptance on the second, i bet they didnt even read my essay

CC,
I think you are partially right that the less competitive people are getting offers this week. However, I know people with worse stats than mine who got it, so it's not entirely that.

Of all you folks who just got a UCSC offer (freshmen only - not transfer students), what were your stats? I'm still trying to evaluate my chances.

donderlover, thanks for the update. I wonder how many of those 6,000 were admitted a couple of days ago.

UCSC is a Tier 1 school, not low caliber. Anyway, congrats on getting in, now go out and have some fun!

they updated the website and they will be sending me a letter in the mail with in 2 weeks.

Now that many of you are "in," it's time to check out housing. UC Notes, an electronic document that is e-mailed to hs counselors and others, just came out today. One of the articles talks about housing on UC campuses:

UC Santa Cruz includes University-sponsored housing both inside and outside its 10 residential colleges. In addition to single-sex and coed floors, UCSC offers theme areas dedicated to multiculturalism and diversity, specific backgrounds and cultures (African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Chicano/Latino, Jewish, mixed heritage) and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender students. The International Living Center attracts international and U.S. students. Other floors offer a focus on academic excellence, outdoor experience, film and digital media, or visual or performing arts. Several floors are designated as smoke-free communities.

University-sponsored housing outside the colleges includes the Village, an on-campus community for continuing education and transfer students; the University Inn, an off-campus facility with its own swimming pool and fitness room; and University Town Center in downtown Santa Cruz, which also houses students from UC Santa Cruz Extension’s English Language Institute.

There is campus housing for 6,000+ students and freshmen are guaranteed housing for two years.

once again, thank you all for your support and i wish every single person on this board luck when it comes to getting into YOUR dream school

My stats are 1500 SAT I, 750 IIC, 740 Writing, 710 chem, and I think a 4.0 UC GPA, although I haven't quite figured out how to calculate it, tons of ECs many with leadership, applied as a chem major. I applied from out of state which might have something to do with hearing later.

congrats. i'm a student at ucsc so if you have any questions feel free to ask me.

also, i didn't get my acceptance last year until the very end of march. i dunno why, but they definitely do it in waves.
