I am using this as more of a way to vent and pretty much for words of wisdom or tips if you’ve been through the same situation. I am on track to finish my first semester at my university with a GPA of 2.0 due to absolute stupidity and procrastination. It seems that the college campus has become toxic to me and I am no longer as motivated as I was when in high school. I am by no means a bad student since I was able to earn a associates degree while in high school from my local community college with a 3.8 GPA. It seems that I have hit a bump in the road, but I feel as if my whole college career is collapsing even before I have started. I have been conflicted with whether to switch colleges since this one seems toxic now or returning to the community college to earn the correct associates pertaining to my major. The other option will be to take the 5 year track at my current university. I am sure that I will earn A’s and B’s now due to learning what will happen if time is not handled correctly. Words of wisdom would be helpful or comments from anyone who was in my situation and overcame it.(Current major Engineering:Undecided)
Many recover from worse starts. What is “toxic” about your current school?
4.0s for another seven semesters would put you at a 3.75. It’s only your first semester–there’s time to improve.
Overall I literally think I just hate this university due to various circumstances and bad luck here
You could stay at a school you hate, transfer to CC and risk that the prep might not be good enough for you to succeed in engineering or you could transfer. What’s your home state and what specifically, without getting into too much detail (it’s too liberal/conservative, racial tensions, bullying, too many of my HS enemies go there, etc) made it untenable?
Unless you deal with these circumstances, and stop blaming “bad luck”, you are likely to be in the same situation at another college.
@TomSrOfBoston, GREAT point!
I agree, like I said was stupidity on my part and well racial tensions and feeling below everyone else because I am a minority is one of the reasons if this helps explain the bad luck.
Sometimes that feeling comes from inside, but there’s no doubt that there are plenty of external pressures too. That said, what do you do about it? Curl up in a ball or get on with it.
The first thing you need to decide is if you will even stay where you’re at. If so, then you work on your efficiency. If not, then you need to quickly figure out where your next stop is.
