I messed up my freshman year grades in high school can I still get into Columbia?

The change from middle school to high school is hard. Everything became much harder, and before I know it, my average dropped down to a 90. Assuming I finish my freshman year WITH a 90 average, do I still have a chance to get into Columbia? I heard that even people with 95+ got rejected. I feel like a complete fail right now.

As long as you bring it up and continue taking challenging courses as well as doing ECs and getting great test scores you’ll have as good a chance as anyone else. Don’t stress about it, everything happens for a reason and if you’re meant to go to Columbia you’ll end up there and if you don’t there a thousand other colleges out there that I’m sure would love to have you. You’re a fresman don’t worry about this stuff, just have fun and enjoy things while you can.

You could have a shot (depending on many factors), but it is very tough to get in there.

I’m pretty depressed right now because all my friends have 95+ averages. How can I compete?

bump

There is only one thing to do: work harder. A 90 average is NOT going to ruin your chances for Columbia. Just do what you can this year and pick it up for the next three years, you’re far from ruled out.
