Hi, I really want to go to Columbia College. I am currently a freshman. My grades so far are not that good, my average is about a 90. I'm not doing very good in English, it's currently an 83. So far I have not applied for any honors or AP classes because I don't seem to meet the criteria. How many AP classes should I take at least for a high chance of getting into Columbia? And if I do well on my SAT but I don't take many AP courses, do I still have a high chance for Columbia?

A 90 average, “not-that-good”? Where are you going for high school? New York? In Alberta and Quebec, a 90 average may mean a top-5% rank… they grade pretty hard.

What Columbia wants to see: 4-5 ECs with focus.

I take Columbia to mean Columbia University unless proven otherwise. In that context, high chance may mean ~10-15%.

Yes, I go to highschool in New York. Many, and I mean alot of my friends have 95 averages. What’s the GPA Columbia is looking for?

Even a 95 average is not, by itself, enough for Columbia. Sure, getting a 33+/2200+ helps but you need a well-rounded package. Even so, it is a reach for just about anyone. Columbia’s acceptance rate is ~8-9%…

I have always wondered what kind of tests these students write, Catria. I wonder if it consists of T/F, matching, and some canned questions that are the same as those in their notes with different numbers.

Does Your freshmen year grade count a lot?

Some. It’s early, but you will need to up your game to have any shot.
