I messed up.

Thank you so much! I sent him an email and filled out an application that i have saved and will send depending on his answer.

Waiting is smart. If they’re out of funds, you’ll save the app fee and fees for test scores and transcripts (don’t know if you have waivers or not).

my family’s income is literally a few hundred dollars too much for qualifying for goverment programs that equate to fee waivers for colleges and the SAT. so no point wasting the cash until i know for sure.

So… journalism and production - any interest in the film side of journalism? News, documentaries? I ask because UNM has a very good film school.

i wanted to do film school but i did not have the resources to create a portfolio (v limited funds and no social connections for actors/etc). i worked on a few local productions and loved it and im thinking about trying to build up a portfolio during my first 2 years and switching majors.

have you looked at University of Scranton? We looked at it and my S really liked it- he is at a small LAC now because he wanted to swim plus got good FA, but Scranton was a surprisingly good visit for him- we also looked at Ursinus, which I see is one you are now looking at- def a good call! My niece (now at Nova) really liked Scranton as well- my sister went there way back when and loved it (it is Jesuit but not really religious in the day-to-day). Not sure on the Aid aspect there, though- you’d have to really look closely at Honors and Scholarships. They are rolling admissions…

@ACollegeHopeful3 New Mexico also has a thriving film industry. There are many job and internship possibilities.

@DiotimaDM has probably given you all of the information you could possibly need. I will add that it is a top 10 school for return on investment and social mobility. It serves a lot of low-income first generation students and provides the skills they need to succeed in life.

These are all really helpful, ty!!! Will update once I get info about amigo

U Scranton’s net price was higher for us than Susquehanna, but your stats are higher, so you might qualify for more merit. Of course I don’t know if it’s too late for that.

So so impressed with your resilience and dedication. It WILL be okay. Have bookmarked this thread, too!

Just a thought…What about Point Park University? With your stats, you could probably get the Presidential Scholarship. You can attend there for a year or two, then transfer to Pitt. That way you can still be in the city and not have far to move when you transfer.

i thought about it but i dont know much about the university or the quality of the educational programs, and penn state has the edge over pitt in my field so if i was going to transfer id rather transfer to there. im not sure how the credits match up but its something to look into! @MYOS1634 , any thoughts?

EDIT: ran the NPC and itll be about 12k a year after my 5500 federal loan.

If Point Park ends up being cheaper than the PSU Branch you can commute to (which is the “one to beat”) and/or offers an affordable alternative that allows you to dorm, then it’s an alternative worth exploring. Their school of communications is good, very career-focused. I think the main issue will be making it affordable.

the application is free so i might as well

Jordan just emailed me back. He says, “We are till accepting applications for Fall 2018-19 admission. We are still reviewing students for Amigo, LUE, WUE eligibility.”

The Amigo is an OOS tuition waiver plus a $100/semester stipend. LUE-plus is the OOS waver but without the stipend. Based on your stats, I’d expect you to get the Amigo.

he emailed me as well so i went ahead and put in my app there and to point park  don’t have room left on my FAFSA for any more schools as of yet but i’ll probably have space when the CMU decisions come out saturday.

Best wishes to you! It looks like you have a couple of good options now, so I’ll be pulling for you wherever you end up.

Congratulations on moving so decisively. It looked like you had very few options just a week ago, and now you are likely to have plenty   Wouldn’t it be funny if you ended up with an embarassment of riches in April?

thank you guys and that would be quite the turn of events. my parents are already saying how it would be ironic if i ended up with anything other than an outright rejection from CMU (not that i think i’ll get anything) but sometimes this process works in strange ways. i’ll be sure to update with decisions and costs!
