I month study plan

Hi all you CC'ers!!
I'll be taking the sat in october and can only start preparing in september. I just took a practise test from the blue book(just to see how i do) and got a 1970.
But when i prepared CR from the bb only and did it seperately..i got a 750.
So could you please suggest the best possible way to study for the SAT to boost my score up to a 2200+??pretty please?
Oh and im always always AlwaYS short on time..
specially in the essay...any tips?
Thank you!

oh…bdw…i mentioned the 2 scores because they are the only 2 I have.
Also…i have the bb and ive ordered direct hits(both vol).Which book would be best for strategy(all sections)??

Buump! 10 char

I took a practice test each day after school for a little over three weeks. It was tiring, but my score went from a 1960 to a 2250.

There will be no study plan that will give you an easy way out.

Thank you for your advice kittencrusher. any tips for the essay?

Standard structure: Introduction + 2 or 3 examples + Proper conclusion

A rule of thumb: 2 strong examples are much better than 3 poor ones

I only got a 9 on my essay for my final attempt. The other two times I got 8’s. I can’t really give you much advice for it.

I used two examples and filled up pretty much the whole of both pages. I could have done better if I had written more essays for practice, though. After school, I would usually skip the first section and by the time of the test, I had only done about four practice essays.

Despite a poor essay, I still got a 780 in writing because I only missed one of the multiple choice questions. I can’t really give much advice here because I’ve always missed only a few of the writing questions in each test (4 questions wrong as my maximum).

Edit: Something that I definitely should have done was to pay more attention to time and to write a better conclusion. My conclusion on my final test was rushed and just two short sentences.

For the essay, I used CherryPancakes’s “standard structure”. Intro, 3 body paragraphs (each one having a piece of evidence/an example), and a conclusion. I got a 10 on my first SAT by doing this, but that was back in March, and I haven’t done any practice SAT essays since. But it worked pretty well for me. :)

@KittenCrusher-which practice tests did you use?

I used the 10 from the second edition of the blue book, 11 Princeton Practice Tests, and then 3 more from another Princeton book (which included strategies, not just practice tests). 24 practice tests total.

The 11 tests in the Princeton book were riddled with errors but they were still useful.

I found, through taking these practice tests, that you shouldn’t really try to memorize the strategies that guides like Princeton tell you. You will develop methods and processes that work best for you by taking practice tests and recognizing your weaknesses.

I improved 150 points (from 490 to 640) on math, over a little more than a month, just by taking tests; I took 10 so far. I used to miss a LOT of questions because of time constraints, but now I usually finish every math section at least 4 minutes earlier. So take more tests, I’m sure it will help at least with time if not with familiarity with content and techniques as well.

I’m working my way through BB vol. 1, and I plan to get BB vol. 2 from my library. The library here has a whole section devoted to SAT, ACT and AP test prep; I’m going to go on Tuesday to get some other books with practice tests (since I’m running low now).

Hey thanks for your advice you all!! Iv found it really useful. Two more questions-

1)In the essay…i had a problem with phrasing my conclusion.I dont know…i just seemed to be repeating what I said in my intro and because of that it was around 2 lines.Could anybody please give an example of a good conclusion?

2) I was thinking of getting another prep book(i just have the blue book currently)…
Which one do you think is good for strategies, review and has a good no. of practise tests…or should i buy a seperate one for practise tests. Could you advise me on which one to use??I would prefer one with slightly harder practice tests.

PS to Kittencrusher-I really really liked your strategy for the last three weeks!Im going to use it for my last two(as i have 1st term exams in the other 2 before that). Thanks ffor sharing it with me! :)
