Maybe you guys will think I'm weird (all my friends do), but I am positively thrilled that I got waitlisted at Caltech today. Caltech is, to be honest, not my top choice because I am looking for a well-rounded school at this point, but the fact that I even got waitlisted there makes me so hopeful for my other schools. This is so ****ing amazing! I didn't expect this at all; I have a 3.435 GPA and no international-level awards (or national, aside from NMF for that matter). Hell, I'm a white Jewish kid.

I am on cloud nine! To think that Cal ****ing tech would even give me the time of day...

Although I am not quite as estatic as you are about being waitlisted (I really wanted to go), I am still surprised I was waitlisted. I only had 2290 on my SAT, no research, and my best math competition award was a 4th place in a local competition. I really think I didn't get outright rejected because I wrote a great (in my opinion) essay which evinced my mathematical interest. I'll try to get off the waitlist if there is any chance. Good luck to you on your colleges.

im not too upset about it. im just glad i wasnt rejected. im just praying they take some of us off the waitlist this year because in the letter it said that some years they dont take ne1. let us pray that this is not thecase this time around

Don't lose hope. Caltech actually utilizes its waitlist, and I believe interest in factored into it (not sure, but I do know further research or achievements help a lot).

I'm pretty sure a significant number of people will get in off the waitlist, so you may still get in.

To demonstrate interest would it be sufficient to include a personal letter with the update basially just explaining why Caltech is our number one choice, or does that seem too desperate?

heheheh... mine too.. shhhh ;) but i reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally want to go to caltech :)))) it's like.. the greatest place on the planet! This and the other seven!

I went to my counselor the other day to tell her that i'm waitlisted and to get some advise what now... she practically told me.. now nothing.. and laters, she, "by accident", said she considers it a rejection....... well.. i don't care what she says anyway, i'm gonna do everything i can to get in.. but she still made me mad, and a bit sad.

@Kamikazewave: are you sure that a lot of ppl will get in? Because, well, the statistics say that round one third of applicants offered admission enrolls at caltech. so it means that from 675, 225 shall enroll... so caltech took in 675 for this purpose, to make sure round 225 enrolls.. So that leaves place for.. no one, or maybe a couple of people...

and especially if axxiom is right when he says that there are lots of people which are qualified and didn't get in to MIT but did get into caltech, so there will be a lot of acceptances for place on caltech right? I mean .. more than usual? So we can expect 225 and even more people will enroll...

Definitely submitting some more work... how many people were waitlisted by Caltech. Maybe if it's not much they probably intended to use the list.

Yeah, my House would be half-empty if it weren't for that waitlist! Waitlisted = not a D&D-playing wanker. Hope to see you all here in the fall.
