I have four months to get my ACT from a 27 to a 32, I’ve been accepted, I just need the scholarship. Is this possible?
Yes, with good coaching it is possible
I would think most likely no. That’s a huge difference. You can try but don’t get your hopes up.
Maybe.
My daughter scored a 27 with no prep and a 32 after a week or two of dedicated self-study. She does much better when she’s familiar with the test format, and she identified a couple of particular weaknesses in her knowledge as she studied that she was able to correct with a little bit of effort.
She was very motivated by the need for academic scholarships to afford the type of school she wanted.
Give it a shot, and put in the effort.
I think it depends on the type of difficulty you’re having. If you’re generally not a fast/accurate reader or lacking a broad amount of math knowledge/understanding it might be difficult. If you’re having difficulty with specific content or test strategies, studying/tutoring could make a big difference. What did you have the most difficulty with? Identifying that will help you zoom in on solutions.
Someone here on CC recommended the ACT Prep Black Book. It focuses on very specific test strategies tailored to the ACT. I ordered it for my daughter but she hasn’t used it yet (rising junior). Looks pretty good to me, though. The part dealing with the science section looks particularly helpful.
it’s about a 150 point jump using SAT terminology, which is definitely doable. It requires some major dedication in study and practice test-taking. If you’ve got a prep test center nearby such as a Princeton Review, it might be worth it to have a coach or instructor guide you, if you don’t have tremendous self-motivation.
It depends on a lot of things…here are a few…
–Did you study for the first sitting when you got the 27 or did you take it cold?
–How much studying can you do between now and when you sit for the exam?
–Have you isolated the skills you need to work on and improve?
–What are your academic abilities in general? A 32 is in the top 4 or 5 percent of all students? Do you typically perform at this level?
–Do you test well?
I think it’s doable as well. My D got a 27 on her first practice test and a 32 on her first official sitting.
She did a ton of practice tests and figured out how to get through the science section which was her weakest link because she was taking too long with the questions.
