I need advice from a current science major!

I plan to major in a science subject in the fall (biochemisty or microbiology) and I want to be a premed student. I would like to know what this major will entail.

I chose to participate in a medical program at my school rather than take an AP science course this year. I'm scared that I won't be able to do as well as I could in a biology course because I haven't taken any advance science courses.

However, I do very well in my Calculus class (all A's each quarter). I also did very well in honors chemistry, honors biology and an Anatomy & Physiology course (all As). I also get all A's in my medical program. I've gotten all A's in my other non-science AP courses (so I've had experience with a college level course) and I have gotten 5s on all of the exams. I am taking an Ap Psychology course right now and I've gotten As each quarter.

I am really interested in science and medical related subjects but I don't want to be intimidated by the course work.

Do you think that I would be able to handle it?

You seem perfectly capable of doing well looking at how well you’ve done in the classes you’ve taken so far, so if you’re dedicated enough you should be fine. Don’t worry about not taking an AP science class this year, if you think you can handle a degree like biochem or microbiology, you’ll be able to handle the equivalent to a high school AP science class once you start college. See how you do once you start, you’re not locked in forever if you take some intro classes. You also mention wanting to go to med school. Have you seen the pre med forum and read all the important threads? If not, they’re really good with helping too.
