Hi guys I got a problem that I hope I can get some feedback on. I just received my BS in BMET (Biomedical ET) and the job offers that are available to me right now is just doing preventive maintenence on medical equipment. Im more interested of the R/D side of biomedical imaging like MRIs, CTS, Xrays. Id like to be a part of an engineering team that actually designs and builds the equipment. So any ideas of what my next step should be as far as education? I know that biomedical imaging equipment is a specialized graduate degree. Would I be able to survive with a BS in EE or BME? Is it a bad idea to have too much education and no work experience? I was thinking that my BMET degree will get my foot in the door while Im still in school and I should be able to transfer some of my basic courses over to what I decide on. Oh yeah .when Im looking at jobs to see what companies are looking for in skills and education what would it be called, like systems engineer or product development, or maybe something else? Thanks.

I really did not understand exactly what you are trying to do or what is best in your situation. I do kno that there is a specialty area within EE called Signal Processing which sounds like you want to do. I kno some of my professors have done work with ultrasounds and medical imaging. I’m not so sure what degree allows you to make the products. It could be more ME type work or the EE might work idk.

I wish I could be of more help but good luck to you.

Yeah I know it sounds a little confusing. I have an oppurtunity to continue my education, I just dont know what my degree plan should be so I can be part of an R/D engineering team for medical devices like diagnostic equipment. I really dont want to be the one that does the research. I would like to be the one that goes through the stages of building and developing prototypes from the research. So Im wondering if a BS in ME or EE is enough. Also as far as jobs, what would this type of work be called?
