So I am at a loss as to what career I should pursue after school.
I am a current sophomore in computer engineering, and chose this major initially with the hopes of aiming for a job in the IT industry after school.

Problem is, I have no social skills......WHATSOEVER. I feel super awkward around others and have a really hard time
making friends. I get especially shy around professors; even one professor in my major who is loved by everyone and makes
his best effort to call on people in class to get to know their names told me he wouldn't call on me because I looked shy.

I am currently doing research with one of my professors, and she has told me that a person with my personality and extreme social ineptitude would flat out not survive in industry.
Is the engineering industry really as cutthroat as people say? Do shy people really get taken advantage of / stepped on?

I have the feeling that she is trying to convince me to pursue graduate school to either work in academia, but I just don't feel like I am smart enough for that. I make As in my courses, but I feel like I only do so with hours of hard work and sometimes luck.

My question is: do I really have no shot at a good career in industry? And if I don't, how can I best prepare myself now for graduate school studies in my major?

Thank you all!
