I need help :( Columbia vs Cornell vs Upenn

ok so i was wondering which school would be the wisest choice for a "pre med" student
for columbia, id probably only get into SEAS and would major in biomedical engineering
for cornell, i would go to the school of human ecology and major in human biology and human society.
for penn, id apply to SAS and major in BBB

but i am totally undecided for which school i should apply to early
could you give me sum reasons for choosing one school over another? pleasee

It depends a lot on what you’re looking for in a college. Strong core curriculum? Big city, big campus, class size, atmosphere…CC can’t choose your college for you.

Also, have you considered non Ivy League? If you’re applying just for the name dropping rights you likely won’t be happy wherever you decide.

Edited because I can’t type :(.

hmm the thing is i know ivy league gives good financial aid
and i am in the lowest income bracket

i actually am from nyc
im more worried about which school would prepare me best for the mcat and for med school.

apply early to the one that you like the most. your thoughts of premed should be pretty secondary to fit right now - since all three schools will provide you with a great education.

obviously all three are great schools. i don’t think you need to worry which one will prepare you the most for med school. don’t view college as your vessel to get into med school. you’re not a “pre-med” major. pre-med is just a list of requirements.

also there are non-ivy’s that give good financial aid.

wherever you end up will be the best premed school for you.

edit - you might want to think about brown’s program… http://bms.brown.edu/plme/</a></p>

There are quite a few “Non-Ivy” schools that are both need blind, and committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated need. Duke and Vanderbilt first come to mind, but there are many more.

Also for premed, some of the best schools aren’t affiliated with the Ivy League. Johns Hopkins and Washington University in St. Louis have arguably the best premed programs in the country.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pre-med-topics/</a></p>

they are really helpful there.

Penn or Columbia imo

"edit - you might want to think about brown’s program… <a href="http://bms.brown.edu/plme/“>http://bms.brown.edu/plme/</a>”
brown plme is def too difficult for me to get in :(

another reason why im not considering duke and other great non ivies is that they are really far away. cant afford airplane rides. cornell is far but their is a shortline bus
penn isnt too far either. columbia is like where i live, but the engineering school at columbia may not be best for pre med. (i dun think i can get into columbia college)

Listen to stephennn and read the stickies at the top of the Pre-Med Topics subforum, then do a Search or read some of the other threads asking which UG school would be best for premed (this question is asked frequently).

There are several current Med students on that forum who really know about premed and applying to med school and will give you great advice. Just don’t start off by opening a thread like this, read what’s there first, you’ll see why ;).
