I need help deciding on my Senior Schedule

Alright so right now these are my classes.

Zero Period: JROTC
1st Period: Spanish 3
2nd Period: Physiology
3rd Period (1st Semester): Chemistry
3rd Period (2nd Semester): Current Life
4th Period: Algebra II
5th Period: English
6th Period (1st Semester): Economics

6th Period (2nd Semester): Government

Notable Notes
- Got a D in Chem last year for first semester, taking a semester to make it up.
- Got a D in Spanish 2 last year for first semester, but got a C for second semester, my counselor says that the UC/CSU will let the D slide.
- Got a D in Geometry for second semester, considering Summer School or Online If available.
- Got a D in AP English for second semester last year, currently trying to convince my teacher that I got evidence (work) that I deserved a C.

- I'm a California student, looking to get into any UC/CSU/Uni.

Alright, so Senior Year, my final year in High School and this is my schedule so far. It looks okay so far, but I want to make some changes. The most important one is getting into Yearbook. I'm seriously considering dropping a class for Yearbook because I'm a guy who's creative, into art. Although I'm not sure what I'm going to be when I grow up, this seems like something I can test my artsy skills in, while at the same time supporting my school. But then would it be wise dropping an academic class like Physiology or Spanish 3 in favor of an elective like Yearbook?

I also got some questions and elaborations.

The reason I'm retaking classes with D's is because I need to clear them to open up choices to do a UC/CSU College in the future.

How hard is it to go the "Community/Junior College then transfer to UC/CSU" route?

If I don't make it into a UC/CSU, will my life be over? LOL

Would taking Yearbook over Spanish 3/Physiology be good in the long run?

In community/junior college, would I be able to make up the D's I got during High School?

First off, why do you have so many D’s? Were the classes really hard, were you slacking off, did personal problems cause you to be distracted, ect.? You should figure this out so you can make sure you don’t make the same mistakes again.

Are any of your classes advanced/honors? Taking an extra FL and Science may look better than Yearbook. I’m not sure if being on the Yearbook staff is considered an EC since you only participate during school. I’d say stick with Spanish 3 and Physiology.

You’re just taking Algebra II? Does your school only require 3 credits in Math or what did you start off with in your freshman year? And what’s Current Life?

Have you taken any APs? Again, are these classes advanced/honors? Any ECs? Have a part-time job? Good recommendations? From what I see here, I’m not sure if you’ll get into a UC/CSU/Uni. If you gave further elaborations, that would help. Even if you don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world. LOL You can get a good-paying job going to a less rigorous school. Some people with Associate’s Degrees from a community college have more luck than someone with a Bachelor’s Degree. I know you don’t know what you want to pursue career wise but do you have an idea? You say you’re artsy, but what type of art are you good at? Painting? Drawing? Sculpture? Would you want to try your hand at a career in art or do you want to pursue something more achievable? Good luck!

The D’s were a lethal combination of struggling/slacking. It’s my fault. I was so good in Freshman and Sophomore and had 3.4-3.6, but then Junior Year kinda made me fall off a cliff. I’m planning to fix it by doing work in the library instead of home, and the fact that my school life basically went down the hill is enough motivation as well, lol.

No none of my classes are AP/Honors, otherwise I would’ve stated them. I applied for AP English, but got rejected.

I’m taking Algebra II this year because during middle school I was struggling big time for math, so then I got placed in Pre-Algebra for Freshman Year. The bad thing was, the year after that, they made it so you HAD to take Algebra Freshman Year, so everyone who was incoming got to skip Pre whether or not they passed or failed. But yeah, my path was Pre Algebra > Algebra > Geometry > Algebra II. I know it sucks.

For good notable things about myself, school-wise.

Took “Honors English” in Sophomore Year.

Took “AP English” in Junior Year

I am a member of Key Club, which is a community service club.

I am a member of AYC, which is a community service club for the Teens/Youth of the City doing work, planning events that the whole city can go to (Talent Shows, Haunted House, etc.)

I am a Publicity Officer of AYC for the 09-10 Year

I was a former Key Club Historian Officer for the 08-09 Year

Varsity Tennis Team Member

Probably racked in 100+ Hours at the moment and planning to get more Senior Year.

Anyway as for art, I like graphic designing, drawing, photography. Although I can explore others like Culinary/Cooking, which is what I like to do. Although like I said, there’s other jobs that I can pursue but can’t decide. There’s the Police/Fire Department/Health areas that I can do which would be good since they have good pay/benefits. There’s also the Military, which is a guaranteed job If you get recruited, and some others. It’s hard to decide, haha.

Aim for lower UC’s (SC, Irvine, Davis, Riverside, etc…) or you can try CC transfer? If you got those D’s from struggling and slacking without any of your own personal problems…I would highly recommend CC then transferring to a state school of your choice. I’m only saying this because you come off as an honest person who just doesn’t seem ready yet but you can be if you begin to apply in CC.

Yeah, If I don’t decide to take up Police/Fire/Health, Military, or attending the Academy of Art University If I get serious in art, I’ll most probably take a CC to finish my prerequisites and try transferring to a UC/CSU.

Could I take classes that would make up my D’s in a CC as well?
How hard would the “CC to UC/CSU” route be?

Bump. Hopefully anyone in this timezone might know the idea.
