So at my school I took the required Physical Science as a freshman. However, my sophomore year my school underwent an academic change and forced to do trimesters of Bio,Chem and Physics. (IBprogram) I went to a different school junior year and took AP Enviro. For senior year, I'd love to take AP Chem, but don't know if I can do well enough. At our school we start AP Chem like it is a basic first year course, and then completes the syllabus. My math skills are strong 34Math on the ACT and I have an A in AP CalcAB. Our school also only lets you take 5Academic Classes. So for senior year, I'm taking:
AP Economics
AP Statistics
English 4
Post Calculus Mathematics
(AP Science)

I was thinking either AP Physics or AP Chem for senior year. How is AP Chem without a full year of Chem before hand? How do you think a college would view me in my circumstances?

Well, I never took the AP chem class because it was not offered (i took honors chem, first year of chemistry), and once it was offered, I had already taken the AP test and received a 5. I can tell you that the AP test is not that hard, even after a year of non-ap chem. I just self-studied parts not covered in class.

Anyways, I’m not entirely sure about the class, and it varies from school to school, but I heard from people that took it this year, it wasn’t that difficult, it was just a lot of work, (but that was also from people who had taken the year of honors chemistry). I think that you could do just fine in the class if you apply yourself.

As a former AP Chem student (took it last schoolyear, awaiting for AP Chem Score this July), I didn’t take any regular or honors chem class. Right after I was done with biology in nineth grade, I went straight to AP Chem. Everything you learn in chemistry will be in the AP Chemistry textbook but in further depth. To me, taking a regular and then an ap chem class seems to me a waste of time.

In my perspective, AP Chemistry seems easier than AP Physics B. My cousin took both and he says AP Chemistry is easier. One reason why AP Physics is harder is that you have to have higher critical thinking skills than for AP Chem.

So, in my recommendation, take AP Chemistry.

AP Chem but Physics does have a lot of math (since you enjoy it) but go with what you want. I’d take AP Chem with those stats mainly because I like Chemistry.

If you take AP Chem, I found it much more easier to have taken a Chemistry Honors course prior. Even though the AP Chem textbook included stuff from Chem Honors, it was 10x easier to have a good prior bank of knowledge. I’m not saying that AP Chem was a cake walk either.

I’ve heard that AP Physics isn’t too bad, if you have a passion in the subject.

wow. well, I guess it depends whether it’s AP Phys B or C. AP Physics B was much easier and more enjoyable than AP Chem for me. The AP Chem curve is much more generous though.
