Schools I am applying to: Lehigh, Lafayette, Muhlenberg(4+4 guaranteed med program) , University of Delaware(honors), Monmouth(4+4 guaranteed med program), Northeastern, The College Of New Jersey, University of Miami, Skidmore

I want to major in something that could keep my GPA high for med school but still be very interesting (i love sciences). So far I have came across Kinesiology and Exercise Science along with Psychology of possible majors. I’d love if someone could help me out with any suggestions!

Thank you SO much!!

The schools on this list offer a range of selectivity options and to an extent match your existing theme: “The Experts’ Choice: Colleges with Great Pre-med Programs.” (available online).

Thank you merc81! I’ll start to look through the list

St Vincent, Misericordia, Juniata, Elizabethtown, Duquesne might offer you some merit money.

Thank you mommdc!

I would add Bucknell and replace Monmouth with Scranton. You would be a candidate for substantial merit at Scranton perhaps full tuition and it is a way better school than Monmouth. You should visit and tour the science, nursing and rehab facilities.

BTW, the program at Monmouth is very very small, up to 5 students.

If your parents are both physicians then you would probably pay full price for Bucknell. Are you instate for PA?

Then University of Pittsburgh is worth adding, access to several hospitals and research facilities.

This student has to be from NJ.

Yes, U Scranton is a good science school. I don’t think he would get the Presidential, but maybe the Dean’s scholarship.

I agree with mommdc

" University of Pittsburgh is worth adding, access to several hospitals and research facilities."

The reason why I mentioned some of the PA (private) schools that offer good merit is that if med school is in the future it might be beneficial if your parents don’t end up paying full price for your undergrad degree. Both being doctors and having high incomes, you won’t get need based aid at any of the colleges.

UPitt is great but will probably cost $40 k OOS. For merit chance there you would need higher GPA, minimum 1450 SAT and 5% class rank.

But at Temple (also has a med school) you might qualify for the Provost scholarship.

I ran some net price calculators on the college websites assuming a family of 3 with $300,000 income. Some of the schools asked for GPA, rank, SAT scores and gave an estimate for merit.

The results (estimates):

Temple possibly $18 k merit net price $23,000
St Vincent $18-20 k merit net price $26,000
Misericordia $13 k merit net price $29,000
Juniata $20 k merit net price $30,000
Duquesne $10k + merit net price $30,000
Elizabethtown $17 k merit net price $35,000
U Scranton $15-18 k merit net price $35,000 +

Your own instate schools might be more affordable depending on merit possibilities.

Thank you everyone! This helps me a lot

You already have great suggestions.
I just want to add: Monmouth is overpriced, definitely check out PA schools instead.

If cost isn’t a concern, I’ll echo Pittsburgh. It ended up being my pre-med guy’s second choice. He’s quite happy at U Rochester, so you could check them out too, but again, mainly if cost isn’t a concern as they’re a pricey (but terrific) school. There are multiple research and hospital options at both places.

Bump!!

Cost is not exactly a concern, but a great school that offers a lot of $$ would be ideal

You really need to visit Scranton and ask for a specialized tour of the science facilities and make sure you eat there.

Is your home state NJ or PA? I also agree about eliminating Monmouth. To clarify, is the 3.9+ your weighted or unweighted GPA? It looks like you reversed them, but if not, a 3.9 unweighted opens up merit possibilities when coupled with your test scores.

I am from NJ, and I did reverse them accidentally. Sorry !

I have now added NYU and UPitt to my list, are there any other schools that are average size (10,000-20,000) that would be considered reaches for me?
