I am in 8th grade and i am taking the SSAT in November and December so, i haven’t taken the actual SSAT yet. I have taken practice tests online from Test Innovators and my scores are pretty low. Here is my most recent one:
Quantitative: 84%
Reading: 71%
Verbal: 61%
Total: 72%
AGAIN, THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL SCORE IT IS JUST THE PRACTICE TEST. I am working on the verbal by doing flashcards and remembering analogy relationships. For math, i think i just need to do more practice. My reading comp. will just have to depend on how much i read per day. I am wondering how accurate my scores currently are compared to the score i will get on the actual test. If anyone has any advise to help me bring up my score it will be great. Thank you!
I would get the official SSAT test prep that is on their website. I thought that the verbal section was harder than vocab and “remembering analogies.” The prep for those sections was very helpful. I would focus on raising those scores and coming out with a total of 85% since your quant score at 84% is probably fine.
To the OP - practice the analogies by learning to recognize the 4 most frequently seen types of analogies on the SSAT - quickly identifying the RELATIONSHIP is key (categories, use/utility, study of, collection of, action, purpose). The official guide has a good review on this, as does the Princeton review book…here are a couple to get your brain working this way.
It’s Ok - you most likely don’t know ALL of the words thrown at you on the SSAT. So, develop a strategy to tackle analogies when you know only some or even one of the words. Have fun with them!!
